‘Fantastic Beasts 2’ Presents A Massive Plot Hole For Professor McGonagall

Published

on

Harry Potter fans are enjoying Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald. However, much like many big franchises, there can be some things in the plot that seem a bit off. For the tenth film in the Wizarding World franchise, there lies a major plot hole involving a prominent character from the original series.

Aging Quite Well?

In the original Harry Potter films, Minerva McGonagall was the Head of Gryffindor. For The Crimes of Grindelwald, the character made a couple of appearances teaching classes. This younger version was a treat for the old school Harry Potter fans in the audience.

Unfortunately, her appearance brings forth a serious issue. Since The Crimes of Grindelwald takes place in 1927, Minerva shouldn’t have been born yet.

All In The Family?

Minerva’s official birthday is October 4, 1935. Some fans were upset with this strange plot hole. “Minerva Mcgonagall cameo in Fantastic Beasts The Crimes Of Grindelwald? Poorly thought out and horribly executed,” Twitter user StuckInATower stated.

According to some, this Minerva McGonagall might not be the one from the Harry Potter films. It could very well be her relative. “As what I read on the internet, someone said that Minerva McGonagall in Fantastic Beast was not THE McGonagall we knew. She is her grandmother with the same name,” Twitter user rownjin said.

Down In A Hole

Unfortunately, this isn’t the only plot hole found in The Crimes of Grindelwald. From wizards teleporting inside Hogwarts to the Mirror Of Erised, diehard fans have been a bit furious. In the end, their love for the franchise was worth more than some canonical errors. So far, the film has earned over $521 million  worldwide against a $200 million budget.

The third film in the Fantastic Beasts saga, which is slated for five films, will be unveiled on November 20, 2020. This film is rumored to take place in Rio de Janeiro during the 1930s.
