5 Facts About Zazie Beetz, Deadpool 2’s Domino

Published

on

Deadpool 2 is finally going to usher in the big screen debut of Cable, portrayed by tough-guy Josh Brolin. Marvel comics fans have been enjoying the time traveling “buddy cop” partnership between Deadpool and Cable for quite some time, but Cable doesn’t come from the future alone — he also brings Domino, his sidekick. Let’s get to know a little bit more about Zazie Beetz, the actress behind the big screen version of Domino in Deadpool 2.

Breaking Into The Business

Zazie shares the small screen with Donald Glover in the FX series Atlanta. She can also be seen in the disaster movie Geostorm, which hit theaters with minimal success. Domino is a comic book fan favorite, and her appearance in Deadpool 2 will undoubtedly send her career into a chimichanga-fueled frenzy. But the story of her upringing is even more interesting.

A Young Immigrant

Zazie was born in Germany to a cabinetmaker father and a social worker mother. Her family moved to the United States when she was very young. Growing up in lower Manhattan is when Zazie discovered her love for acting and performing. She received her training from the Harlem School of the Arts and LaGuardia Arts High school. Needless to say, absorbing cultures is something the actress does well.

German American

Her parents raised her to speak both German and English, and both languages were common in her household. As if being bilingual wasn’t enough, Zazie decided to pursue her bachelor’s degree in French from Skidmore College. Her dual German-American citizenship and appreciation for cultures make her a valuable tool in any director’s arsenal.

Shooting For Hours A Day

Domino is a marksman, an area where Zazie has had no real formal training. In order to prepare for the role, the actress trained on the shooting range and in the gym for nearly four hours per day. She told Vanity Fair, “I don’t know how people say exercising is addictive. When I was done, I was done.”

Domino V. Deadpool

According to Marvel.com, Domino has the ability to “subliminally and psionically initiate random telekinetic acts that affect probability in her favor by making improbable (but not impossible) things to occur within her line of sight,” when she gets stressed out. Domino first appeared in 1992 in the comic book X-Force #8. She will prove to be a chuckle-induced challenge for the Merc With a Mouth.
