As the rap group Shop Boyz once said: “I’m on a money makin’ mission/But I party like a rock star/I’m flyin’ down twenty, lookin’ good in my hot car.” Not everyone can throw or attend fabulous parties, but like the Shop Boyz, we can dream, right?
1. Kate Middleton and Prince William’s wedding
Estimated cost: $34 million
Weddings are generally expensive, but most aren’t as expensive as the 2011 nuptials of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge. The very televised affair reportedly cost just about $34 million. However, $32 million of that went to security. The Royal Family definitely splurged on a lot of other things besides security, however.
Take Kate Middleton’s dress for instance — that was reportedly $434,000! That’s not even what the typical Americans spend on their weddings. The Knot’s 2017 Real Wedding Study found that $33,391 is usually spent on weddings in the U.S.

2. Simon Cowell’s 50th birthday party
Estimated cost: $1.6 Million
The American Idol judge is deadly serious about music and birthday parties. Simon Cowell threw out all the stops for his 50th in 2009, which Daily Mail described as the “who’s who of the most influential people in TV and music.” The event was at a mansion in Hertfordshire’s Wrotham Park.
Business Insider recounts 400 guests showing up to celebrate Cowell’s birthday in limos which he paid for. There were prawn and lobster martinis, fancy chicken soup, shepherd’s pie, fish and chips, apple pie — sounds like an Englishman’s dream.

3. Liza Minnelli and David Gest’s wedding
Estimated cost: $3.5 million
Singer and actress Liza Minnelli got married to producer David Gest in March of 2002. The pair only stayed together for 16 months before divorcing but their wedding will be remembered for ages to come. Backed by a 60-piece orchestra, the iconic singer Tony Bennett entertained Minnelli and Gest’s 500-some guests, says Reuters.
What’s more, the extravagant event was held at Marble Collegiate Church in New York City. The best man? None other than the late King of Pop, Michael Jackson himself. Other guests in attendance were some of the most well-known people in the music and film world.

4. Blue Ivy’s second birthday party at Jungle Island
Estimated cost: Unknown
For those not in the know, Jungle Island is a wildlife and botanical garden park in Miami, Florida. If you’re a nature loving kid, this is the ultimate birthday party location. TMZ says that Beyoncé and Jay Z had the entire Jungle Island park closed down just for their little girl in January 2014.
It’s doubtful that Blue Ivy remembered the entirety — or any, for that matter — of her second birthday, but she probably had a blast regardless. Despite their professional snooping, TMZ couldn’t crack the party costs. However, GA tickets are $37.33 for kids with VIP tours at $328.90.

5. Sean Combs’ 40th birthday party
Estimated cost: $3 million
Combs (far left) is one of the wealthiest musicians in the world with an estimated net worth of $820 million, according to Forbes. Dropping $3 million on his 40th birthday party is a mere drop in the bucket for the famed rapper. A black and white themed event, one of the biggest expenses was white orchids.
Combs spent a whopping $28,000 on these flowers. Seems like all the expenses for this 2009 event were worth it because Combs tweeted the next day: “I haven’t had a hangover in five years! But I have one now! What do I do?”

6. Lindsay Lohan’s 20th birthday
Estimated cost: $100,000
Just because a party is understated doesn’t mean it’s not expensive. Take Freaky Friday star Lindsay Lohan’s 20th birthday bash for instance: Lohan had a dinner party with her closest friends. Sounds mellow enough, right? Well, put that dinner party at a beach house in Malibu, California and hire celebrity chef, Kerry Simon.
Celebrity website Success Story says her party cost $100,000. It’s unclear if that’s actually how much it cost because we don’t see any sources. We imagine that hiring the late Simon would have cost a pretty penny. An Iron Chef champ, Simon died at 60 from complications related to multiple system atrophy.

You wouldn’t expect anything less from the wedding of a former first daughter of the United States. Bill and Hilary Clinton’s daughter, Chelsea Clinton, wed Marc Mezvinsky in 2010 at the Astor Courts estate in New York. The estate was originally built for John Jacob Astor IV, says CBS News.
The affair had about 400 people, a wedding dress by Vera Wang (who personally was in attendance) and a five-foot gluten-free cake. Some on the other side of the political aisle suspected the Clinton Foundation paid for Chelsea’s wedding — a claim Snopes says is unproven.
