Have you heard the good news about John Wick 4? Lionsgate officially announced that they’re releasing the fourth installment of the hitman franchise in the near future. Although we have a few more years to wait before John Wick 4 is released, it’s never too late to brush up on the events of the last three movies. Read on to explore the entire timeline of John Wick.

Meet Mr. Wick

In 2014, audiences were first introduced to the legend that is Mr. Wick. Starring Keanu Reeves, the original John Wick follows the tale of a hired killer who wants to trade his action-packed life in for one of quiet contemplation after his wife’s death. Burying his guns and gold deep beneath his basement, Wick shuns the violent life that he once knew. That is until some unlucky criminals decide to steal Wick’s car and to kill his precious dog. Set on a lethal path of vengeance, Wick won’t stop until his enemies are obliterated.

Nicknamed “Baba Yaga” (which translates to the Boogeyman), Wick unleashes a ferocious attack against the man who stole his beloved dog, crime lord Viggo Tarasov’s son, Iosef. Once Iosef attempts to change the VIN number on Wick’s car at a local auto shop, he catches word that Wick is after him. The entire movie follows Iosef as he tries to escape from Wick’s wrath. The hit film quickly spawned several sequels, including 2017’s John Wick: Chapter 2 and 2019’s John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum.

The Second Chapter

John Wick: Chapter 2 picks up right where the first one left off, with Wick returning to his compound with a new-found puppy companion. However, his quiet life doesn’t last long, as he’s quickly roped into another caper by Italian mob boss Santino. After John reluctantly agrees to help out Santino, he makes the trek to the criminal haven, the Casablanca Continental hotel, to meet up with the mafioso. Once there, Wick is assigned to kill Santino’s sister, Gianna, in order to expedite Santino’s rise to power at the High Table. When John completes his mission, Santino ends up framing Wick for Gianna’s murder.

Things get even crazier when Santino places a $7 million bounty on Wick’s head, inspiring Gianna’s bodyguard to attempt to take John’s life for a huge reward. Escaping another close call, Wick finds shelter with the Bowery King, who’s portrayed by long-time film collaborator Laurence Fishburne. Following John’s bloody revenge against Santino at the Casablanca Continental, Wick’s excommunicated from the criminal underworld for killing Santino on neutral ground.

Parabellum

With a new $14 million contract on his head, John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum introduces several new characters to the franchise. Halle Berry joins the cast as Sofia, Wick’s old friend and former manager at the Casablanca Continental. Ultimately, John asks Sofia for a favor to help him to discover the storied Elder, played by Said Taghmaoui. Since the Elder is the only person who can return John to the ranks of the High Table, this mission becomes central to the movie’s plot.

When Wick meets the Elder, John promises to kill Winston, the Continental’s owner, as a pledge of loyalty. At the end of the film, Wick even cuts off his own finger and offers his marriage band to the Elder as a show of faith. With John Wick 4 on the way, Lionsgate has set the official release date for the fourth film for May 21, 2021. Apparently, the new movie will focus on the final showdown between the Bowery and the High Table. We’re excited to see what director Chad Stahelski does next!
