Everything We Have So Far About ‘Indiana Jones 5’

Indiana Jones

Since 2008’s Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, news has been wildly speculating about a sequel. After waiting nearly 20 years between sequels, fans didn’t want to wait much longer. Fortunately, that’s coming together sooner than you think. We have some juicy details surrounding this forthcoming adventure film.

Filming Early Next Year

Indiana Jones 5 is slated to begin shooting at the beginning of 2020. With several months beforehand, it’ll give Harrison Ford enough time to get back into that mindset. When it boils down to Han Solo or Indiana Jones, Ford thinks Solo is a bit bland. “He’s got a good heart, but I think he’s certainly a much less interesting character than Indiana Jones,” Ford told Entertainment WeeklyIndiana Jones 5 will be released on July 9, 2021.

Spielberg At It Again

Steven Spielberg will return as director for the film. While this is being released through Disney, it does end its initially planned run. When the first Indiana Jones movie was released, Paramount Pictures wanted five films about the adventurer. George Lucas wanted to leave things as a trilogy following Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade.

The Sound Of Music

You can’t have an Indiana Jones movie without a great score. John Williams, who did the music for every Indiana Jones film, will deliver new music for this one. In 1982, Williams earned a Grammy for Best Original Score for Raiders of the Lost Ark.

Not The Last Stop

Indiana Jones 5 might be the final one for Ford, but Disney CEO Robert Iger has other plans. In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, he understands the desire for more Indiana Jones. While it won’t be as consistent as Star Wars, fans can expect a new film every few years or so.  “We [got] Harrison Ford as Indiana Jones in the film. But then what’s the direction? I’ve had discussions about what the direction is, [but] I don’t want to get into it,” he said. Spielberg once insisted on handing over the lead role to a woman. “We’d have to change the name from Jones to Joan. And there would be nothing wrong with that,” he told The Sun.

No Fedora For You

At the end of Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, Mutt Williams (Shia LaBeouf) was hinted at taking over. Unfortunately, the character won’t be snatching the iconic fedora from Jones. “What are you talking about? It’s mine. I would love to do another Indiana Jones movie. George Lucas is working on an idea now. Shia can get his own hat. I earned that hat,” Ford told Express in 2011. Mutt won’t be coming back for the fifth movie. LaBeouf got into hot water after criticizing Spielberg for Crystal Skull upon its release. In the end, he realized his mistakes were his own. “I probably coulda gone lighter on Spielberg. That was probably something I should’ve backed off of, but my feelings are real. Dude gave me a lot of opportunities, though. And that’s on me,” LaBeouf said on SiriusXM’s Sway in the Morning radio show.

Writing Up A Storm

The film was originally slated for release this July, but it was delayed following David Koepp’s exit as screenwriter. Jonathan Kasdan quickly took over Koepp’s position. It seemed like a great match since Jonathan’s father Lawrence knows a thing or two about Indiana Jones. The Oscar nominee wrote Raiders of the Lost Ark, which earned him a Saturn Award for Best Writing. Unfortunately, Kasdan’s script was rejected, and Dan Fogelman has been picked to replace him. The New Jersey native is best known as the creator of the hit NBC series This Is Us. When it comes to movies, he’s earned praise for his work on CarsCrazy, Stupid, Love, and Tangled.
