It’s time to travel back to the pioneering days of the 1800s and revisit your favorite television family, the Ingalls. One of the most popular television shows of the ‘70s and ‘80s, Little House on the Prairie is currently streaming on Amazon Prime Video. Get ready to binge-watch all nine seasons.

Based Off A Book Series

The TV series is based on Laura Ingalls Wilder’s Little House on the Prairie children’s books. Published between 1870 and 1894, the book series has been praised for its wholesome family content. The books follow the lives of the Ingalls family (Charles, Caroline, Mary, Laura, and Carrie) as they live on a farm in Walnut Grove, Minnesota. The family also lived in Wisconsin, Kansas, South Dakota, and Missouri during the late 19th century.

The iconic books include Little House in the Big Woods, Farmer Boy, Little House on the Prairie, On the Banks of Plum Creek, By the Shores of Silver Lake, The Long Winter, Little Town on the Prairie, These Happy Golden Years, and The First Four Years. The books were inspired by Wilder’s personal experiences from her childhood.

An Award-Winning TV Series

Wilder’s childhood might be remembered as a popular children’s book series., but when people think of Little House on the Prairie, they recall the Emmy Award-winning NBC drama, airing from 1974 to 1983. The show was a loose adaption of Wilder’s books, featuring Melissa Gilbert as Laura Ingalls Wilder, Michael Landon as Charles Ingalls, Karen Grassle as Caroline Ingalls, Melissa Sue Anderson as Mary Ingalls, and Lindsay and Sidney Greenbush sharing the role of Carrie Ingalls. An ensemble of supporting cast members rounded out the heartwarming show.

The series explored many themes throughout its run, and several of them were considered controversial and taboo during the ‘70s and ’80s. For example, the show wasn’t afraid to feature topics of adoption, alcoholism, faith, poverty, blindness, drug addiction, illness, child abuse, racism, and even rape. Throughout the dramatic scenes, the show incorporated many lighthearted and comedic moments, making it a delightful series for the whole family.

A Hard-Working Director

Little House on the Prairie was largely a success due to Landon, who had a strong work ethic. He aimed for perfection. Of the show’s 205 episodes, he directed 90 of them, including the show’s two-hour pilot and the final episode. Landon wanted the show to be the best it could be.

This inspired former child star and now veteran actor Jason Bateman, who had a supporting role as James Cooper Ingalls during the show’s seventh season. Bateman commented, “He was the George Clooney of that time. The crew loved him, the industry loved him, guys wanted to be him, and women wanted to be with him.”

Binge-Watch The Show

Little House on the Prairie ended 36 years ago in 1983, but it continues to be seen by fans, thanks to reruns. The show can currently be seen in 140 countries. However, all nine seasons of the hit show are now available to binge-watch on Amazon Prime Video.

When fans heard about the recent addition to Amazon Prime Video, they couldn’t wait to start watching (or re-watching for the 100th time) the classic show. Many fans shared their excitement on Twitter.

For example, user @Monstorerb commented, “I have been waiting for this…forever.” Another user (@pennyddreadful) said, “Get in touch with your inner Laura.” Yes, probably everyone could relate to Laura Ingalls Wilder at least some time during their lifetime. She was the lively child we all were, and she grew up to be a passionate, mature adult we wanted to become.

Finally, Twitter user @jeffrlasley reflected on Landon’s acting in the series, and how his portrayal of Charles Ingalls was the best performance of his career. He commented, “His range of emotions was second to none.”

We can’t disagree. Every actor on Little House on the Prairie delivered top-notch performances week-after-week. Now, you can appreciate their acting on Amazon Prime Video. Pack your bags because we’re heading back to Walnut Grove. Stay away from Nellie Oleson. She might cause some trouble.
