Ellen Hands Her Audience One Million Dollars To Do Good Things With

You may or may not like Ellen DeGeneres’ TV show, but whichever side of the line that you fall on, you can’t fault her generosity.

A Major Gift

Ellen has recently been running a campaign called One Million Acts of Good. It simply encourages people to be good each other and to “share good” among themselves.

So, for her birthday, she decided to put her money where her mouth was and reward people for their kindness.

Everbody In The Audience Was Hand-Picked

Ellen’s birthday audience had been invited based on the letters that they’d written to the show about the good things they’d been doing, in line with the One Million Acts of Good campaign.

When she came on stage, the audience members were asked to reach under their chairs to find a Cheerios box. Ellen then told them, “you are all going to share this gift. It is the biggest gift I have ever given anybody, ever.” It was $1 million in cash split between the attendees.

Pay It Forward

Once the initial celebrating had died down, Ellen said, “I hope you continue to pay it forward and share all the good.”

Each person who was there walked away with $2,500 cash for their good deeds. They included a couple who’d driven across the country to help people in the wake of Hurricane Harvey, a teacher who gave a kidney to the mother of one of her students, and a guy who quit his job to start a sanctuary for abandoned farm animals. Sometimes virtue is its own reward, but if you’re invited onto Ellen’s show, there might be a cash reward too. What a wonderful way to support a better world. Are you a fan of Ellen DeGeneres? How are you planning to do good things today?
