Ed Sheeran Returns to Social Media… Hinting at a New Album?

Published

on

Last year on the 12th of December, Ed Sheeran posted a long and heartfelt note on Instagram announcing that he would be taking a break from social media to get in touch with the world and experience all that he had been missing. In his words, “I’m taking a break from my phone, emails, and all social media for a while.” Of course, he couldn’t just disappear without saying when he would come back, so he ended the note on a promise: “See you all next autumn.” Well, autumn came and went and still, Ed Sheeran was completely silent. Except for a quick appearance on Taylor Swift’s Instagram account, the world heard no news from the stupendously talented ginger singer.

So, when Ed Sheeran finally made an appearance on Twitter on the 12th of December this year, the entire world went absolutely nuts. His tweet was literally exactly one year after his previous tweet, down to the hour and the minute. And what did he tweet? Well… not much. All that the “Sing” singer gave to the world was a little sky blue square – and it’s driving people absolutely nuts.

So, what does the cryptic baby blue picture mean? Well, before he went on his social media hiatus, the “Photograph” singer hinted at a third and upcoming album. “To my fans, the 3rd album is on its way and is the best thing I have made thus far.” That’s some pretty exciting news from Sheeran, though we’ve yet to hear any new music so far. Aside from “Love Yourself,” the tune that Ed wrote for Justin Bieber, we’ve all had to remain content with listening to + and X on repeat. No new music has actually been confirmed since Sheeran’s goodbye tweet, but all of the pieces are there.

Ed Sheeran’s previous two albums both had a strong color theme: + was bright orange and X was solid green. So, perhaps the ginger singer’s new album will be this new shade of blue? If so, the promotional technique is genius. Not only did Sheeran tweet this blue box, he also changed his Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram profile pictures to that exact same picture. Of course, this is all conjecture, but who knows? We’d venture to guess that we’ll be hearing about new music soon.
