Joe Jonas and Sophie Turner shocked the world in May 2019 when they announced they secretly eloped on May 1 in Las Vegas following the Billboard Music Awards. We knew they were engaged, but their wedding was a secret. Now they’re planning a bigger wedding ceremony. No one knows the date— unless you’re Dr. Phil.
About The Elopement
Jonas, a member of the popular Jonas Brothers pop group, popped the question to Game of Thrones actress Turner in 2017. Since then, fans questioned when the couple would finally tie the knot. When younger brother Nick Jonas married actress Priyanka Chopra in 2018, everyone wondered when it was going to be Joe’s turn. It seemed it was closer than what we thought.
Immediately following the Billboard Music Awards in Las Vegas on May 1, 2019, videos confirmed Jonas and Turner entered a Vegas wedding chapel. They could have been attending someone else’s wedding, but there was one clue that revealed it was the couple’s very own wedding: Turner was wearing a white floor-length dress.
Another video showed Jonas waiting at the makeshift altar, alongside his brothers, Nick and Kevin. Country music duo Dan + Shay played an acoustic version of their hit song “Speechless” while Turner walked down the aisle to her eager husband-to-be. To make things even better, the couple were wed by an Elvis Presley impersonator. Love me tender, anyone? This might have been the best elopement of all time.
Planning Another Ceremony
According to Jonas, the elopement was the legal process of their marriage. They’re husband and wife, but that doesn’t mean they can’t have another wedding ceremony in the future with the couple’s entire family from both sides. For example, Jonas’s parents, who weren’t invited to the elopement, will be able to enjoy another, much larger and even more private, ceremony.
Jonas and Turner have declined to share details about their intimate wedding ceremony, including the date. But somehow Dr. Phil seemed to find out the day and he recently let the cat out of the bag on Instagram. People can’t get enough and are wondering if the television personality is actually right about the wedding date.
Spilling The Beans
It all started when Turner posted a photo on Instagram on June 22, 2019, of her and Jonas kissing in front of the Eiffel Tower in Paris, France. Several celebrities commented on the photo, including Chopra, Turner’s X-Men costar James McAvoy, Turner’s Game of Thrones costar Maisie Williams, and more. But when Dr. Phil, a well-known television psychologist, commented on the post, it was unusual but also intriguing because of what he revealed.
Dr. Phil commented, “Easy now! One week to go! Ha! See you at the wedding!” If he’s correct, Jonas and Turner could have tied the knot (for the second time) during the weekend of June 29, 2019. Dr. Phil’s comment garnered plenty of attention and people commented about the fact that he might have spilled the beans about what was meant to be a secret.
Of course, Instagram users also found it hilarious that Dr. Phil, of all people, “spilled the tea” about the wedding. One user (@beauumont) said, “Way to expose their business!” Other users thanked him for his mistake.
But another user (@russianbokchoy) commented, “Wait, I’m confused why is Dr. Phil here.” Why is Dr. Phil following Joe Jonas and Sophie Turner? How is he connected to them? This might be surprising, but Dr. Phil happens to be a very eager Jonas Brothers fan. He loves their new music. He also interviewed Jonas and Turner on his podcast, Phil in the Blanks. If Dr. Phil did spill the beans about the wedding, we hope his friendship with the couple wasn’t ruined.
