Dog Rescued in a Fire Gets Adopted by the Firefighter Who Saved Him

Published

on

Firefighters Anthony Muhammad, Timothy Dexter, and Jimmy Moore were three of the many firefighters who responded to a home fire in Newburgh where two dogs were trapped inside the burning house. Unfortunately, they found one dog who was already dead and when they thought that the other one most likely did not survive as well, the dog desperately tried to get their attention. And one firefighter was brave enough to take care of him.

“We heard the whines of a little puppy,” Dexter told People. “We went into the room and Lt. Muhammad flipped the bed over, and there was little Titus. He picked Titus up and handed him off to me. I brought him outside and began treating him with oxygen and trying to take care of his burns, assisted by firefighter Jimmy Moore.”

Titus, a 6 to 8-week-old pit bull was badly injured. Almost his entire body was burned.

Sadly, at a time when the dog needed much love and care, the family who owned him decided that they will no longer keep him. After realizing the situation, Moore eventually decided to adopt him since he had been planning on adopting a dog himself. Firefighter Dexter also offered to help.

“Early that day Moore was saying to me that he was thinking about getting a new puppy so his dog, which is the brother to my dog, would have a friend to play with when he was away. Although it was a little sooner than he expected, we knew it was meant to be. Jimmy was a little concerned about how much the vet bills would cost, [so] I told him I would co-own the dog with him and help him out financially, but he would have primary care of the dog … I think Titus will have a much better life,” shared Dexter.

This is not the first time the firefighters rescued an abandoned dog as they also have a pit bull at the firehouse named Nick who they took in almost a year ago.

“He [Nick] met Titus just yesterday and got along with him very well,” Dexter said.
