“Doctor Strange” Alternate Ending Brings The Laughs

Doctor

In 2016, the Marvel Cinematic Universe was introduced to Doctor Strange. The 2016 film was a huge hit with fans with $677 million earned at the box office. While fans know the ending of the film, an alternate ending takes a funny turn.

What A Strange Ending

The alternate ending finds Strange being agitated with Wong’s inability to laugh. They begin discussing The Rolling Stones’ 1964 hit song “Time Is on My Side.” Strange corrects Wong by stating it wasn’t an original Stones song. Jerry Ragovoy initially recorded the track. Wong would surprise Strange by acknowledging Irma Thomas’ cover, which was done before The Rolling Stones. Amused by Strange’s surprising reaction, Wong chuckles as he heads out the door. The clip ends with Strange staring at his broken watch.

While the Rolling Stones are mentioned, there’s not talk about the Infinity Stones. Marvel Studios decided to swap the endings to fully connect Doctor Strange with the other films. Another noticeable thing about this alternate ending is Strange and Wong not worrying about Mondo. Upon Doctor Strange‘s release, this character was poised to be a bigger problem to Strange in the future. The film’s ending finds him stealing Pangborn’s mystical energy.

A Box Set For The Ages

The ending stems from the recent Infinity Saga Collection box set. Plans for doing something in celebration of the Infinity Saga were tossed around following Avengers: Endgame. “If we do a big, giant ‘Infinity Saga’ box set, we might include — I’m assuming if you’re going to spend the money to buy a box set with everything in it, you’re a fan. And it’ll take more than a couple of really, really bad scenes to turn you,” Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige told Empire this past summer.

For Feige, this massive box set, which was an instant sell-out, was all about giving devoted fans something extra. “I like sharing those scenes. And when we have something like that [Tony Stark tribute] that we love, and which was not an easy decision to cut out but was the best decision for the movie, it’s a great avenue to say, ‘We’ll put it out there,'” Feige also told Empire. “It’s not like no-one will ever see it. There are things that we think nobody should ever see. And I think we’ve just recently been discussing that now we can start to show some of our less proud moments.”

Madness On The Way

Doctor Strange fans will have to wait until May 7, 2021, for another exciting story involving the sorcerer. Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness was announced at last summer’s San Diego Comic-Con. This will be the MCU’s first horror film in their large franchise. Actor Benedict Wong has one villain in mind for this forthcoming film. “I think there’s Nightmare, isn’t there? I don’t really know that many to be honest, I just kind of allow it to appear. Whatever happens, I just allow it to happen,” he told Comicbook.com. In the comics, Nightmare is one of Doctor Strange’s biggest foes. In fact, he was Strange’s first foe in Strange Tales #110. The character controls a Dream Dimension, which harbors humans during their sleep.

Doctor Strange director Scott Derrickson will return to work on Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. Rising writer Jade Bartlett will work on the film’s screenplay. The film will feature Wanda Maximoff (Elizabeth Olsen) in a prominent role. Disney+’s forthcoming series WandaVision and Loki, which arrives in early 2021, will connect to the movie. Filming for Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness will begin early next year.
