Juicy Details About The Third Season Of ‘Westworld’

Westworld

Following two amazing seasons, Westworld will come back for round three. Fans of the popular HBO series are marking down the days until its release. Unsure of what’s going down this season? We discuss some key points to help you out.

Hitting TV Screens In A Year’s Time

The main thing people want to know is when new episodes will finally hit HBO. The cable network announced that the third season will arrive sometime in 2020. When it comes to a possible release date, it can be a toss-up. Season one of the show premiered in the fall of 2016 while season two arrived during spring 2018. With Game of Thrones ending this year, Westworld could well be its spring replacement. During its eight seasons, Game of Thrones mainly premiered around March or April. Season seven stood out with a July premiere.

The show could find itself as part of the summer or fall schedule. With the forthcoming Game of Thrones spinoff coming, HBO might save that spring spot for it.

A Few New Players

As expected, many of the cast members will show up for season three. They’ll be joined by a trio of actors entering the Westworld family. Aaron Paul, Lena Waithe, and Vincent Cassel will have some undisclosed roles for the upcoming season. Paul is best known for his work on Breaking Bad as Jesse Pinkman. His performance earned him three Emmys for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series. When discussing his new character, Paul states that it’s someone perfectly fit for their world. “All I can say is it’s par for the course. What is so great about Westworld is it’s just so inventive and different and dangerous and gory, but this doesn’t shy away from that, this particular new addition,” he told Digital Spy.

Waithe is best known for co-writing and starring in Netflix’s Master of None. In 2017, she became the first African-American woman to win the Emmy for Outstanding Writing for a Comedy Series. Her drama series The Chi was recently renewed for season three on Showtime. Cassel has won accolades for his work in Mesrine and It’s Only the End of the World.

Some New Changes Ahead

When it comes to season three, they’re looking to bring the fight outside of normal territory. “I think it’s a radical shift. What’s compelling and appealing about these characters is that they’re not human. As we said in the show, humans are bound by the same loops the hosts are, in some ways even smaller. You couldn’t expect human characters to withstand and survive the kind of story that we’re telling. The hosts have a different version of mortality, a different outlook. I think clearly with Dolores, as she’s laid out, there is a longer view here, a larger set of goals. They’re existential. They span eons. And that’s a fascinating level of story to engage in,” co-creator Jonathan Nolan told The Hollywood Reporter.

While Charlotte Hale was killed in season two, Tessa Thompson will still have a crucial role. “Tessa is such a fun, amazing and versatile actress. When you have someone like her, it just opens up limitless possibilities. So we always knew that we were going to do this reveal and let her expand into this new role. We have a very diabolical arc for her planned out. Part of the fun for the character will be self-realization. She will be realizing the things we know about who she is,” co-creator Lisa Joy also told The Hollywood Reporter. Season three is currently filming in Moab, Utah and the Melody Ranch Studio in Santa Clarita, California. Things will wrap up sometime in September.
