Derek Jeter and Jeb Bush Get Marlins Instead of Kushners or Tagg Romney

The worlds of politics and sports collided this week when a group run by Jeb Bush and Derek Jeter won the right to buy the Miami Marlins. The team will most likely have a price tag of at least $1.3 million. People interested in both sports and politics had been watching what happened because both the son of former presidential candidate, Mitt Romney and the family of President Donald Trump’s son in law were vying for the right to buy the same team.

The Kushner family, who are related to Jared Kushner, Trump’s son in law, are tight with Jeffrey Harold Loria. He is the current owner of the Miami Marlins and a New York based art dealer. It has been reported that the family has been talking to Loria directly about the team.

Social media responded to the news about the Marlins

People had a lot of fun with the fact that Jeb Bush and Derek Jeter had won the right to buy the Marlins over the Kushner family and Tagg Romney.

The deal is expected to be approved

Major League Baseball has to approve any change of ownership for any teams but that is not expected to cause any problems. Jeb’s brother, former president George W. Bush was the owner of the Texas Rangers for a while. Additionally, Jeb is a resident of Florida as is Jeter.

Membership has its benefits

Although the Marlins struggled with attendance, there are some good reasons to buy the team. The team got a new stadium a short five years ago. Bush and Jeter can make money by selling the naming rights to the park, which is currently called Marlins Park. The deal they currently have with FOX could be reworked and the team is slated to host the All Star game this year.
