Demi Lovato Calls Out Taylor Swift Again

Published

on

By now, it’s hardly a secret that Demi Lovato holds a grudge against Taylor Swift. Back in February this year, she was very vocal in expressing her disappointment that Swift decided to donate $250,000 to Kesha in order to help her out in her legal battle with Dr. Luke. A couple of months later, Lovato took offense at Swift for not acting like a real feminist, even though that was such a large part of her brand identity. When Kim Kardashian released a video of Swift supporting Kanye West, Lovato took her side by liking a tweet that read “I love Kim Kardashian.”

And as if we needed more proof she’s doesn’t like Swift, Lovato called her out again in her interview for Glamour magazine’s November issue. Apparently, Lovato didn’t like the fact that Swift used her 2014 hit ‘Bad Blood’ to remind her fans of her longstanding feud with Katy Perry. Lovato said that making a song and a video with the intention of slamming Katy Perry can hardly be called women’s empowerment. She also added she’s content with being a feminist, because she speaks out when that’s necessary.

Lovato also had some harsh words for Swift’s squad in the ‘Bad Blood’ video. The Confident singer was disappointed that the video only featured women with perfect bodies, claiming this gives their young female fans a false idea of what they’re supposed to look like. As a reminder, Swift’s squad includes supermodels such as Cara Delevingne, Karlie Kloss and Gigi Hadid. Whether you agree with Lovato or not, her remarks do have some basis in reality.

In her mini-Twitter rant on Tuesday, Lovato said she was simply responding to questions she was asked. She reminded her fans that words can be taken out of context, but added that she was not going to apologize for saying things that are on everyone’s minds. Somewhat naively, she was a bit surprised that there was so much interest in her interview. After all, that’s what usually happens when a global pop sensation makes a few controversial remarks.

As for Swift, she still hasn’t made any official statements on the matter. However, according to E! News she’s not exactly overjoyed about the whole thing. A source close to her said that Swift is very close with a small group of women in her life, claiming that they all have each others’ backs. Though the source agrees that the two singers have never been good friends, Swift still believes that Lovato’s comments were unnecessary.
