Platinum-selling artist Demi Lovato has been making plenty of moves in 2019. Recently, the Texan made her way to Israel on a trip. While in the country, Lovato was baptized in the Jordan River. For her, the entire experience was a life-changer.

The Visit Of A Lifetime

On Instagram, Lovato shared her thoughts about the whole ordeal. “I am an American singer. I was raised Christian and have Jewish ancestors. When I was offered an amazing opportunity to visit the places I’d read about in the bible growing up, I said yes. There is something absolutely magical about Israel,” she said. “I’ve never felt such a sense of spirituality or connection to God…something I’ve been missing for a few years now. Spirituality is so important to me…to be baptized in the Jordan river—the same place Jesus was baptized—I’ve never felt more renewed in my life.”

During her time in Israel, Lovato visited some noticeable places. The singer found her way to the Yad Vashem: The World Holocaust Remembrance Center. Established in 1953, the center has over one million visitors every year. “My heart was absolutely broken in Yad Vashem. This was such a beautiful tribute and a reminder that we can never forget,” she said on Instagram. Earlier this year, the center revealed plans to open a new artifacts center.

Lovato also visited the Shalva National Center in Jerusalem. Opening in 2016, this center gives disabled people the chance to exercise, play sports, and be social. Lovato posted a photo of herself with a little girl with the caption: “While I was over there I fell in love with this little beauty at the Shalva National Center. What an amazing center for children with special needs.”

Sorry Actually Sorry

Lovato’s trip didn’t come without any criticism, though. Many believe she unintentionally chose a side in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. In her Instagram Stories, Lovato acknowledged the condemnation of the trip and offered an apology.  “Sometimes people present you with opportunities and no one tells you the potential backlash you could face in return. This was meant to be a spiritual experience for me NOT A POLITICAL STATEMENT and now I realize it hurt people and for that I’m sorry,” Lovato said.

Ready To Pump More Hits

Back in April, Lovato made a major change by naming Scooter Braun as her new manager. “Couldn’t be happier, inspired and excited to begin this next chapter with you Scooter!!! Thank you for believing in me and for being apart of this new journey. Let’s do this,” she said on Instagram. Lovato joins Justin Bieber, Ariana Grande, and Zac Brown Band as part of Braun’s SB Projects. Last year, Lovato split with her longtime manager Phil McIntyre.

In June, Lovato revealed plans to release a brand new album. “You know what’s great about making an album? You get to say anything you want, be as open and honest as possible and finally tell your side of the story regardless of who might not like it,” she said on Instagram. Lovato is rumored to have worked with Bianca “Blush” Atterberry and Oak Felder on the release. This will be the follow up to her 2017 studio album Tell Me You Love Me. The release includes the multi-platinum hit “Sorry Not Sorry,” which is her biggest selling song to date.

Stepping In Front Of The Camera

Aside from music, Lovato announced her return to acting. She was added to the cast of Netflix’s comedy film Eurovision. Will Ferrell, who is producing and writing the film, made the announcement on Lovato’s Instagram. “We want to make a very special announcement about a brand-new cast member, and it just happens to be her birthday today. I made her this wonderful cake from scratch. So happy birthday! Yay!,” he said while holding a cake. Lovato also revealed plans to appear on an episode of Will & Grace. Lovato’s last acting role was in a 2013 episode of Glee.
