5 Intriguing Rumors About DC’s Next Wave Of Films

Published

on

Since DC’s Justice League disaster, the DC Extended Universe has been in complete disarray. Their film slate continually fluctuates, spinning out surprising reports on a weekly basis. Some reports we pray are just rumors. Others make us salivate at the mere possibility of them being true. Here are five of the most intriguing rumors about the future of DC’s cinematic universe.

Rumored For Batgirl

Last year, DC announced that Joss Whedon was going to write and direct a Batgirl movie. Though he has since dropped out, the project is still ongoing, and over the summer, a shortlist was revealed for the title role. It included Katherine Langford as the frontrunner, as well Elle Fanning, Haley Lu Richardson and Jane Levy, among others. It remains to be seen who will pick up the project after Whedon, but DC does appear determined to make the movie. But Batgirl isn’t the only Batman-affiliated character to get their own flick.

Joaquin’s Joker

Todd Phillips is on board to co-write and direct a standalone Joker movie, rumored to revolve around the clown prince of crime’s origin story. But Jared Leto won’t be starring. Instead, Joaquin Phoenix has reportedly already agreed to the role after Phillips’ first choice, Leonardo DiCaprio, fell through. While this project remains mostly under wraps, the next movie’s development has been more publicized.

Flashpoint

Ezra Miller’s Flash was one of the bright spots of last year’s Justice League, and DC is taking note. He’s set to star in the Flash-centric Flashpoint movie, planned to come out in 2020. A string of directors have jumped in and out of the project, but the recent news is that John Francis Daley and Jonathan Goldstein are going to direct. Let’s hope DC stops shuffling directors so that this movie will come out on time.  Another Justice League character that fans want to see more of didn’t appear until the post-credits scene.

Deathstroke

Joe Manganiello debuted as the mercenary Deathstroke in Justice League‘s post-credits scene. The fan-favorite villain was originally set to square off against Batman in the next Bat-flick, but that no longer looks to be the case now that Matt Reeves is revising the script. Luckily, fans may get the chance to see Manganiello in a standalone film. Gareth Evans is reportedly attached to write and direct Manganiello in a Deathstroke solo film. As for The Batman, it looks like there may also be an entirely new Bruce Wayne.

New Batman?

The Batman has been planned for a while now with director Matt Reeves at the helm. However, everybody seems to be in the dark concerning the project. Reeves has reportedly minimized the role of Deathstroke within the movie, if not eliminated him entirely. There have also been reports that Ben Affleck won’t be donning the cowl, but that Jake Gyllenhaal could take on the role of the caped crusader. Regardless of who puts on the mask, Batman fans everywhere are hoping DC doesn’t screw up their best character.
