The setting was in one of Taylor Swift’s concert in Denver last 2013. In such events, a meet and greet are considered the norm. This usually involves picture-taking and cheerful welcomes. A Denver radio DJ named David “Jackson” Mueller was one of the few who was invited as a VIP. It was also a routine for Taylor Swift and DJ Jackson to have their pictures taken together. However, there is nothing “routine” about what happened next.
The Shake It Off singer, together with her security team, accused David Mueller of sexually assaulting her. Specifically, she claimed that the DJ grabbed her posterior in the midst of a photo op.
Two days after the accusation, David Mueller was fired from his radio station. In 2015, Mueller filed a slander lawsuit against Swift. The DJ repeated on many occasions that he had never done anything wrong. Mueller admits that he and Swift had their picture taken together, but he never assaulted or grabbed her in any way. According to Mueller, it’s possible that someone else had assaulted her. Possibly, it was Eddie Haskell, Mueller’s former boss.
A month after David Mueller’s lawsuit, Swift filed a counter-lawsuit, asking for a jury trial. Swift then presented the court a now-public transcript of her deposition. According to her, she was in distress, embarrassed and shocked because of the incident. Swift also narrated how the incident happened. She also claimed that there was nothing accidental about the incident, and she further stated, “I’ve never been so sure of anything in my life”.

Swift has also made a public statement, that most women are forced to simply shake off such incident. According to the singer, this shouldn’t be the case and no one should be able to touch someone without their consent. According to Swift, doing so is a violation of someone’s body and it creates a bad emotional response that stays long after the incident ends.
Furthermore, Swift publicly announced that if the case goes to trial and wins any monetary compensation from David Mueller, her suit dictates that the money will be donated to a charitable organization that aims to protect women’s rights from sexual assaults.
Current developments of the scandal are leaning towards an agreement between Swift and Mueller outside the court. For now, this just a speculation and the entire thing is far from over.
