Danny Boyle Confirmed As Director Of New Bond Flick

Published

on

After years of mystery and rumor, Slumdog Millionaire director Danny Boyle has finally confirmed he’s directing the next James Bond movie. The production of the next as-yet-untitled 007 adventure has been marred by several issues, including drama surrounding Daniel Craig’s return, but everything looks to be back on track after Boyle was announced.

Bond 25

Boyle has long been rumored to be attached to direct the historic 25th installment, which is due in movie theaters in November 2019. But, it wasn’t until a recent interview in New York that he finally admitted it. Speaking to the Metro, he said: We are working on a script right now.”

Variety

He didn’t confirm much else though, keeping his 007 plans a secret. What Boyle did say was that he’s working on a script with screenwriter John Hodge and expects Bond 25 to begin filming at “the end of the year.” He wouldn’t give any hint about the plot or potential locations where they might shoot.

The Bond Legacy

Boyle will take over from director Sam Mendes who ruled himself out of a return in 2016 when Bond 25 was in early production. Mendes was behind the last two and most successful Bond movies of the long-running franchise, Skyfall (2012) and Spectre (2015).

Bustle

Skyfall grossed a record $1.1 billion at the worldwide box office while Spectre earned $880.7 million. Taking on James Bond isn’t an easy task, which could be why it has taken so long to confirm a director take over for Sam Mendes. Boyle has long been rumored to be a favorite successor and was a name suggested way back in 2012.

Craig Is Back

He’ll be directing Daniel Craig in his fifth outing as the British super sleuth. The British actor’s route to Bond 25 has been drama-filled. While promoting Spectre, he said he would rather “slit my wrists” than return as Bond.

Daily Mail

He changed his mind, and in 2017 confirmed he would be back as Bond. During an appearance on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert in 2017, he explained why it took so long: “We’ve been discussing it, we’ve just been trying to figure things out. I always wanted to, I needed a break.”
