Daniel Craig Raises Speculations on Possibility of a James Bond Reprisal

For those who consider themselves ardent fans of 007,  the next installment of James bond-themed film set can’t come soon enough. In fact, since Spectre, there has been plenty of back and forth about whether British actor Daniel Craig was willing or even capable of reprising the role of James Bond. Things were made even more difficult by claims Craig made last year to the effect that he did not see himself going back there. That shook fans and create a lot of talk about what was happening in the franchise. Was it dying? Had we seen the last of Bond in Spectre?

Now Craig seems to have made a massive turnaround, admitting that there is still the chance that he could come back. Speaking during an interview at the New Yorker Festival, Craig has shrugged off the statements made before, suggesting that he was tired and that perhaps people misconstrued his talk, which he claims to have been ‘rather straightforward’. Craig regrets that the comments were taken that way and blames himself partially for being a little too direct with his prospects. The star says that he had been away from a long time(a year) during the final stages of Spectre and that homesickness might have had a role in what he said.

This time, Craig says he would miss the role ‘terribly’ if Spectre becomes the last installment of the Bond franchise he stars in. Asked whether any agreement has been released about the next installment, Craig played coy with reporters and refused to be drawn into talk about any concrete plans or agreed-upon dates for the shoots and releases. He said he had not yet been approached directly by anyone but seemed to hint heavily that if an offer came, he would not look the other way and turn it down. Looks like the actor actually loved being on the set of Spectre.

Released in the last quarter of 2015, Spectre received very polarized reviews, the main criticisms being that it failed to live up to the sky high expectations set by its predecessors. The plot was seen as uneven and some critics suggested that the sequences were way too confusing. However, the box office response was wild, with the film generating over $880 million worldwide. It would be interesting to see if Daniel Craig gets cast for the next edition and whether or not he will grow into a role most pundits have attributed to a more mercurial actor.
