Dalai Lama: No Place for Politics

Published

on

Many know of the Dalai Lama as a loving religious figure that preaches the values of self-discipline, forgiveness, harmony, and love. At least, that is the tenant of the religious practice he teaches, Buddhism. While ideally religion and politics would remain separate, our world has demonstrated time and time again that this simply doesn’t happen.

This has become apparent with the latest buzz kicking up about the Dalai Lama’s annual visit the Tawang Monastery in Arunachal Pradesh, India. India has asked China not to tie any political meaning to the Dalai Lama’s visit, while China is saying the visit would “hamper” the relationship of the two nations. But why? Well here is where things get juicy.

The Backstory

So why would China care about where the holiness goes? Well most don’t know that the Dalai Lama is a public religious figure chosen in Tibet, China. So many would think that the current Dalai Lama lives in Tibet, but that is not the case. In fact, the Dalai Lama has not lived in Tibet since 1959, the time of the Tibetan uprising.

The Eyebrow Raiser

After hearing this bombshell, one may start to wonder what exactly caused the uprising in Tibet during the late 50s? Also, why was the United States CIA involved in it at all?
