Real-Life ‘Fault in Our Stars’ Couple Die Days Apart

Published

on

A real life account of the couple depicted in the Hollywood movie, The Fault In Our Stars has died within days apart from each other. Katie Prager, 26, suffered the same fate five days after her husband Dalton Prager, 25, died. The couple passed away due to complications brought by the disease they both shared, cystic fibrosis.

The couple met on Facebook after they both learned they have the same terminal lung condition. The couple was married in 2011, which made them the real-life versions of the characters from the acclaimed novel written by John Green.

Just like the fated lovers from the book and 2014 film, the couple met their end suffering from the complications of their disease. Katie died on Thursday while Dalton succumbs to his condition five days earlier.

Renee Prager, Dalton’s mom, and she said: “I truly believe Dalton had prepared a place for his wife, just as the pastor talked about yesterday at Dalton’s service.”

The couple was inseparable even if their closeness meant being infected with the same viruses. The couple also went through similar lung transplant procedures which did not help but worsened their condition.

Dalton went through the surgical procedure in November 2014 but contracted lymphoma and suffered from pneumonia after overcoming cancer. Katie had her surgery done on July 2015, but also failed to improve her health.

Debra Donovan announced her death on her social media account saying, “Early this morning, she gained her wish of being at home, in her bed, surrounded by her mom, dad, brother, and her dogs, dying peacefully, away from the hospital, tube, IVs.”

“I know Dalton was waiting with open arms. One important thing I have taken away from this is to live, just live… something you want to do, don’t wait. Life is short, love as hard as you can,” she continued.
