Could This Fan Theory Change Season Two of ‘The Mandalorian?’

Updated

on

Upon its debut, “The Mandalorian” has been one of Disney+’s most successful original shows. “Star Wars” fans have engaged in deep discussions on what could happen in season two. One interesting fan theory could change the show’s entire landscape.

Rise of the Darksaber

At the end of season one, fans were treated to a surprise appearance by the Darksaber. This unique lightsaber was created by former Mandalorian Tarre Vizsla. The saber made its first appearance in the “Star Wars: The Clone Wars” episode “The Mandalore Plot.” In the episode, Pre Vizsla unleashes the same Darksaber passed down by Tarre. Unfortunately, Pre was murdered by Darth Maul in “The Clone Wars” episode “Shades of Reason.” The Darksaber would return in “Star Wars Rebels,” where it would be given to Sabine Wren. Later in the series, Wren would hand the Darksaber over to Bo-Katan Kryze. In “The Mandalorian,” Moff Gideon had it.

Who’s the True Owner?

On Reddit, user ImpulsiveBeetle unveiled a shocking theory about the saber. “Since the Darksaber is passed down via inheritance or through killing another one in a duel then eventually that means it belongs to Luke. Pre Viszla got it because it was passed down from his ancestors and Maul got it from slaying Pre Viszla. So that means since Obi-Wan slayed and killed Maul in ‘Rebels,’ then it is technically his,”  ImpulsiveBeetle said in a Reddit post. “Darth Vader then killed Obi-Wan in a duel, making him the rightful owner. Since Darth Vader wasn’t killed in a duel and technically died on his own by taking off his mask, then that means that [it] passes down [to] his son, Luke. Making Luke the rightful owner and heir to the Darksaber.”

The Force Is Strong

Having Skywalker be the true owner of the Darksaber could be a major plot point for the show. Unfortunately, actor Mark Hamill has closed the book on portraying his iconic character again. The show could mention the character by name but fans would hope to see him in the flesh. There’s also the possibility of having someone else play Skywalker. Disney rolled the dice by having Alden Ehrenreich play a younger Han Solo in “Solo: A Star Wars Story.” While the film didn’t do well, many fans praised Ehrenreich’s performance.

One person that would be perfect to portray Skywalker is Sebastian Stan. In 2016, a side-by-side photo of Stan and Hamill went viral. Stan has been open about portraying the character. “I just want to say here that anytime anyone would like to call me and ask me about Luke Skywalker, I’d be very happy,” Stan said at the 2017 Rhode Island Comic-Con.

Questions Will Be Answered

The second season of “The Mandalorian” will deliver some stronger ties to the Darksaber. Kryze and Wren are slated to appear in the next season. “Battlestar Galactica” star Katee Sackhoff will reportedly portray Kryze on the show. The actress lent her voice to the character in “The Clone Wars” and “Star Wars Rebels.” As of this writing, no one has been attached to Wren.

Fortunately, “The Mandalorian” second season finished filming before the coronavirus epidemic. This means, however, the crew has to do remote work to get these episodes done. New episodes will be released on Disney+ starting in October. Joining the cast this season are Rosario Dawson as Ahsoka Tano and Temuera Morrison as Boba Fett. Timothy Olyphant will portray Cobb Vanth, who was featured in the “Star Wars: Aftermath” books.

While fans wait for a second season, preparation work has already begun on season three. This means even more fan theories will find their way online for people to digest.
