‘The Conjuring 3’ Begins Shooting In June

Published

With over $1.5 billion earned, The Conjuring Universe has been keeping fans terrified for six years. People have been concerned about The Conjuring 3 since the director’s chair passed from horror fan-favorite James Wan to Michael Chaves. Fortunately, the film will begin shooting much sooner than they think.

Expanding The Universe

The Conjuring 3 is slated to start shooting in June. For Chaves, this will continue his involvement with this horror universe. On April 19, 2019, his directorial debut The Curse of La Llorona will hit theaters. The movie, which stars Linda Cardellini, is the sixth overall film in The Conjuring franchise. The film follows a social worker unearthing a horrific supernatural realm.

In a 2016 interview with Coming Soon, Chaves professed his love for The Conjuring. “Honestly, that is one of my favorite recent movies. It reinvigorated horror to me. I’ve always loved horror. I grew up on horror. It was terrifying. It was such a scary movie. It was done at a really top level. It was a high-class horror film. It reminded me a little bit of Jaws and The Exorcist and that purity of filmmaking where horror was taken a little bit more seriously,” he said.

Making The Right Call

When it comes to Chaves, director James Wan knew he was a perfect fit. “While working closely with Chaves on The Curse of La Llorona, I got to know him as a filmmaker. Chaves’ ability to bring emotion to a story, and his understanding of mood and scares, make him a perfect fit to direct the next Conjuring film,” he told The Hollywood Reporter.

Wan stepped down from directing the third installment due to scheduling conflicts.

Some Familiar Faces

The Conjuring 3 will feature returning actors Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga as Ed and Lorraine Warren. This film revolves around a trial where the defendant was possessed by evil spirits. On June 28, 2019, Wilson and Farmiga will reprise their roles for Annabelle Comes Home.

The Conjuring 3 will be released on September 11, 2020.
