Finally, Claire Underwood Is President In ‘House Of Cards’ Season 6 Trailer

Netflix’s House of Cards has gone through some major changes since Kevin Spacey’s departure. Fans were concerned that his exit meant the show was completely finished. Fortunately, things are ready to rock in the White House, and fans have their first glimpse into the final season.

Hello, Ms. President

The streaming service unveiled the first trailer for season six of the show. In the trailer, everyone seems to be skeptical of Claire Underwood’s abilities as the new president. That doesn’t upset her at all as she states, “The first female president of the United States is not going to keep her mouth shut.”

Underwood is played by Robin Wright, who earned seven Emmy nominations for her performance. The Texan earned a Golden Globe for Best Actress in a Television Series Drama back in 2013.

Giving It A Proper Sendoff

Wright stated that the series was close to being canceled when Spacey left. Instead of giving up, the actress took it upon herself to keep the series running for one more season. “They printed that it was ‘only’ 600 people out of work, but if you include security, cops, shooting on location in Baltimore, everything, 2,500 people would have been out of a job. And that’s not fair – to take that security away from those people…They didn’t do anything,” she told Net-A-Porter.

Showrunner Melissa James Gibson stated that season six will bring some new drama. “One of our driving narrative forces [for season 6 has been] an exploration of “Who owns the White House?” It also became a season of reckoning for Claire to face herself in a way that maybe she’s never had to, to this degree,” she told Entertainment Weekly.

It’s Her Turn

Aside from acting, Wright will direct the series finale. The actress has directed nine episodes of the series. She’s also been an executive producer for 34 episodes.

The final season of House of Cards will be released on November 2, 2018.
