Chris Hemsworth’s Wife Has ‘Banned’ Thor’s Hammer

Chris

Many actors like to take home a prop or piece of memorabilia from their movies. Sometimes, it can get out of hand. Just ask Chris Hemsworth’s wife, Elsa Pataky, who told him he can no longer bring home his faithful hammer, Mjolnir. Yes, now Thor will have to live without quite as many prop versions of his trusty weapon.

The One And Only Thor

Chris Hemsworth will always be known as Thor in the iconic Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) film franchise. Since the release of Thor in 2011, Hemsworth has impressed fans with his performance as the God of thunder. Fans simply can’t imagine the MCU without Hemsworth.

When Hemsworth auditioned for the role, director Kenneth Branagh was immediately impressed with his screen test. He commented, “We pretty much knew as we were shooting the test that he was the guy. It seemed, across these meetings, he had grown into it. He understood it better. And crucially, he was at ease.”

Hemsworth has portrayed Thor in the Thor film franchise, as well as the MCU’s Avengers series. We suspect people will always associate Hemsworth with the popular character. Even when he’s probably 60 or 70 years old, he will still be Thor to the rest of us.

The Mighty Weapon

Since 2011, Hemsworth has grown attached to Thor. He loves stepping into the character and wielding Mjolnir, his mighty hammer. With one swing, Mjolnir could even take out the Incredible Hulk. Of course, the hammer has become symbolic to Thor’s character, but also a memorable, classic prop piece in cinematic history.

It shouldn’t be surprising that Hemsworth has fallen in love with the weapon. After he wraps various films, he takes home one of his Mjolnir hammers to serve a memento of the filming. He proudly displays them in his home, but not everyone appreciates them.

No More Hammers

While Hemsworth clearly loves his Mjolnir hammers, his wife (model and actress Elsa Pataky) says she has reached her limit on displaying the iconic props in their home. They currently have five Mjolnirs in the home, and she said that’s enough. She has a new rule: he can’t bring any more home.

Pataky discussed the new regulation while appearing on the Australian radio show, Fitzy and Wippa. She explained, “He always picks the best places in the house, and I’m like, ‘It’s not going there. We have five of them from every movie we’ve done, like, seriously, no.”

Hemsworth has wanted to display his precious collectible on the dining room table as a centerpiece (which would look lovely during the family’s Christmas dinner), as well as on the mantel above the fireplace. Whenever you would walk into the living space, you couldn’t help but notice the large hammer.

Just One More Prop

While Pataky might have this new rule on banning Thor’s trusty hammer, Hemsworth might disobey her wishes while he’s filming Thor: Love and Thunder, scheduled for release in November 2021. This could possibly be the final film Hemsworth appears in as Thor, so we wouldn’t be surprised if he steals his beloved character’s favorite weapon.

Thor: Love and Thunder will focus on a new hero, Thor’s former love interest, Jane Foster (Natalie Portman). She rises up and obtains the same powers as Thor. This will be Portman’s return to the MCU after 2013’s Thor: The Dark World. This time, Jane will use Mjolnir when she becomes the heroic, mighty Thor.

It seems like Portman will have a much larger role in the upcoming film than Hemsworth, but he will most likely attempt to steal the Mjolnir once production wraps. For Pataky’s sake, let’s hope Portman decides to bring the famous hammer home with her. We don’t want Hemsworth to suffer the fate of the Mjolnir in his own home.
