By themselves, it is often difficult to tell just how tall a celebrity is. When you stack them up next to someone else, though, the point of reference becomes increasingly clear. When that other person happens to be their partner, the difference can seem even more drastic. While height differences commonly occur between romantic partners, celebrity couple height differences are often made all the more obvious by camera-ready red carpet appearances. You won’t believe what a difference those high heels can make (and sometimes don’t make)! Read on for some very surprising vertical discrepancies between some of the biggest names in showbiz – and we’re not just talking about your conventional guy-taller-than-gal pairings either!
1. Wladimir Klitschko and Hayden Panettiere: 6’6” and 5’0”
Petit Hollywood star Hayden Panettiere’s partner Wladimir Klitschko towers over her by a staggering 18 inches. Along with their vertical discrepancies, the couple also has a 13-year age difference between them. But this truly seems to be an adorable case of opposites attracting.
The Heroes actress and her boxing champ beau certainly are a knockout pair and don’t seem to be down at all about their pronounced differences. In fact, Panettiere and Klitschko welcomed their first child – daughter Kaya – in 2014 and have high hopes for their little cutie.
2. Shaquille O’Neal and Laticia Rolle: 7’1” and 5’6”
Larger than life basketball legend Shaquille O’Neal’s looming height has long been a subject of awe on and off the court. The iconic Shaq wasn’t playing games, though, when he first got together with longtime girlfriend Laticia Rolle in 2014.
Shaq’s lady love is no shrimp herself and while there may be a height difference between them, it’s hardly a relationship foul. In fact, it appears they have a lot more in common than not. At five-foot-six, Laticia Rolle was also a star basketball player during high school and later at Eckerd College. Now there’s a slam dunk for love!
3. Cameron Diaz and Benji Madden: 5’9” and 5’7”
Like age, height is just a number when it comes to love. Cameron Diaz is a towering figure in Hollywood (literally and metaphorically speaking), but the spunky movie star has acknowledged that her life didn’t feel complete until she met Good Charlotte frontman Benji Madden.
The showbiz power couple married were introduced by Diaz’s close friend (and now sister-in-law) Nicole Richie. Diaz and Madden wasted no time getting married in 2015 after a quick 17-day engagement. A few years later, in 2018, the Charlie’s Angels star announced she was stepping away from the spotlight and retiring from acting.
4. Nicole Kidman and Keith Urban: 5’11” and 5’10”
Academy Award-winning Australian actress Nicole Kidman is known for her prolific, critically-acclaimed filmography that is at least as long as her magnificently lean limbs. In 2005, the statuesque star met country singer Keith Urban and the two fell head of heels for each other.
The couple from Down Under is known for bringing red carpet romance to new heights with their smitten-looking snaps. “Definitely we both met each other exactly at the right time,” Urban has said. “Meeting her and getting married wasn’t life-changing, it was life-beginning.” Aww, crikey!
5. Shakira and Gerard Pique: 5’0” and 6’4”
She’s known by just her first name, and soccer fans recognize him solely by his last name. The “Hips Don’t Lie” singer and Spanish soccer star Gerard Pique officially teamed up in 2011. Shakira might have 10 years on her partner, but Pique has more than a foot on the Colombian singing sensation.
Shakira and Gerard Pique first met when he appeared in the music video for her 2010 World Cup song “Waka Waka.” Neither of those factors seem to have made anything of a difference for the talented duo, who now have two children. It appears neither their hips nor their hearts lie!

6. Mary-Kate Olsen and Olivier Sarkozy: 5’2” and 6’3”
Former Full House star Mary-Kate Olsen has been in the spotlight since infancy alongside her twin sister Ashley Olsen. As no stranger to the press, the actress turned fashion designer turned plenty of heads when she began a relationship with French banker Olivier Sarkozy.
Seeing that the 49-year-old half-brother of former French president Nicolas Sarkozy is over a foot in height and more than a decade older than the petit Olsen, 31, the pair had no lack of gawkers. No matter though, the notoriously private pair said c’est la vie and wed in 2015.
7. Sacha Baron Cohen and Isla Fisher: 6’3” and 5’3”
There may be a whole foot between Sacha Baron Cohen and Isla Fisher, but this celebrity couple’s height difference seems to be very low on their list of priorities. All Ali G and Borat antics aside, Cohen is a devout Jew and Fisher was ready to do anything to be with the love of her life.
In 2007, five years after the comedically gifted couple met, Fisher converted to Judaism. “We have a future together and religion comes second to love as far as we are concerned,” the Wedding Crashers actress said before their 2010 wedding. If religion comes second to love, then we can’t image how far down height is. Mazal tov!
8. Kate Middleton and Prince William: 5’9” and 6’3”
Kate Middleton – a.k.a. Her Royal HIGH-ness The Duchess of Cambridge – stands at an impressive five-foot-nine, yet her husband, Prince William, still stands a half foot taller than her at six-foot-three. Talk about reigning over the people! Before Harry and Meghan, there was Kate and Wills.
The stately pair first met in 2003 as students at the University of St. Andrews. The two married on April 29, 2011 and are now the proud parents of three. It’s safe to say the world won’t stop looking up to them anytime soon (in all the ways).
9. Lisa Bonet and Jason Momoa: 6’4” and 5’2”
Arguably one of the coolest couples in Hollywood, Lisa Bonet and Jason Momoa have been together since 2007. Best known for his role as Khal Drogo on Game of Thrones, the Hawaiian-born Momoa seems nonetheless imposing than his Dothraki leader character in real life – particularly next to his petite wife.
Despite rumors that Bonet, 50, and Momoa, 38 married in 2007, they actually legally wed a decade later. Through their marriage, Momoa became stepfather to Bonet’s daughter with rocker Lenny Kravitz, Zoe. Bonet and Momoa now have two children of their own.
10. Rod Stewart and Penny Lancaster: 5’10” and 6’1”
British rock star Rod Stewart is by no means short, but he seems to have an affinity for even taller women. The “Hot Legs” singer with an apparent penchant for long legs, married former model and photographer Penny Lancaster in 2007. It was his third wedding.
The English celebrities first met in 1999 when Stewart offered to let Lancaster photograph him while on tour. The pair welcome their first child in 2005 followed by their second in 2011 and they have remained in each other’s hearts ever since.

11. Kelsey Henson and Hafþór Júlíus Björnsson (A.K.A. The Mountain): 5’2″ and 6’9″
The Icelandic strongman giant Hafþór Júlíus Björnsson might be well-know for playing The Mountain on Game of Thrones or for being the World’s Strongest Man, but perhaps his latest claim to fame is how he towers over his petite wife, Kelsey Henson.
Henson has jokingly answered her fans’ doubts on how the two can even kiss, writing on her Instagram, ‘ahha he bends, I tip toe. Or just say screw it, pick me up!’ It’s super adorable witnessing the super strongman Björnsson hugging his miniature wife. What’s more, despite their dramatic height difference, the couple really enjoy one another’s company and love posing for pictures during their travels across the world.
12. Reese Witherspoon and Jim Toth: 5’1” and 6’1”
You barely notice Legally Blonde firecracker Reese Witherspoon’s height when she’s giving one of her captivating performances on the screen. Witherspoon’s parents once nicknamed her “Little Type A” – although we’re not sure it was exactly referring to her vertical measurements.
Known for memorable roles in Walk the Line, Wild and Big Little Lies, Witherspoon’s spunk and skill definitely make audience overlook her height. Standing next to her six-foot-one husband Jim Toth, the difference is more apparent. Still, their differences in stature didn’t stand a chance in overshadowing their bond.
13. Pharrell Williams and Helen Lasichanh: 5’9” and 5’11”
Grammy-clad recording artist Pharrell Williams and his now-wife Helen Lasichanh were just friends for two years before their relationship took off. He was immediately smitten with the lanky model. “She just stood out,” he recalled of when they met. “I was just so enamored by the moment I was having with her.”
After five years of dating, they finally tied the knot. But what was perhaps more astounding than their height difference was the fact that they wore PLAID to at their nuptials! The “Happy” singer and his better half certainly have plenty of reasons to rejoice now with son Rocket and infant triplets!
14. Tina Fey and Jeff Richmond: 5’5” and 5’5”
Okay, so there might not technically be a difference in these celeb heights, but when SNL funny woman Tina Fey puts on pumps there seems to be a disparity. Still, the talented twosome seems to have good humor about the whole thing, with Fey even referring to her Emmy-winning composer husband as “travel-size.”
Still, their heights are no testament to their accomplishments. The dynamic duo met way back in 1994 and have worked together from their early years with Chicago’s famous Second City improv troupe and later on the shows 30 Rock and Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt.
15. Will Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith: 6’2” and 5’
Hollywood icons Will Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith first met on the set of his coming-of-age hit series The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air when she auditioned for the role of her future husband’s girlfriend, Lisa Wilkes. Ironically, she didn’t get the part because she was considered too short.
While their 14-inch height difference didn’t work for the studio execs on-screen, it didn’t prevent these two from joining forces in real life. Now considered one of Hollywood’s most beloved couples, these two went on to (literally) give birth to a showbiz empire with their hair-whipping, karate kicking children Jaden and Willow Smith.
16. Jessica Simpson and Eric Johnson: 5’3” and 6’3”
This celebrity couple isn’t the first on the list with a height difference of a whole foot or more and we’re starting to think the old saying about opposites attracting really is true (at least when it comes to height).
A few years after pop singer Jessica Simpson ended her high-profile marriage with boy band member Nick Lachey she met her current husband, former NFL player Eric Johnson. The pair is so much more than the height difference between them with two children and years of coupledom to show for.
You won’t believe which other chart-topping stars made the list – keep reading!

Whether you know him from his stand-up or movies like Soul Plane, Scary Movie 3 and Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle, there’s no way you could have missed Kevin Hart. What you might not have known about the Philadelphia-born comedian is that at 5’4” he stands at three inches under his five-foot-seven wife Eniko Parrish.
Hart is good-humored about the whole thing, though, and commonly uses the subject as material in his stand-up routine. Parrish isn’t in the showbiz industry, but the pair is often seen at red carpet events and Hart has openly said he “doesn’t believe in doing things to manufacture my body to appeal to what I think people might like.”
18. Jenna Elfman and Bodhi Elfman: 5’10” and 5’9”
Hollywood leading lady, Jenna Elfman undeniably stole men’s hearts throughout the 1900s and 2000s. However, there was one man in particular who stole hers. The Keeping the Faith and Dharma & Greg star is married to fellow actor Bodhi Elfman.
Although she’s considered a tall celebrity, Jenna Elfman only stands an inch above her husband without shoes on. With heels, though, it’s somewhat more pronounced. Unphased by a superficial factor like that, the couple met at an audition for a Sprite commercial and have stood the test of time with almost three decades of marital bliss under their belts.
19. Fergie and Josh Duhamel: 5’2” and 6’3”
Her height might not top the charts, but her music certainly has. Hit-maker Fergie has provided us with some of the catchiest pop tunes of the decade first with the Black Eye Peas and then as a solo artist. She stopped ridging solo in her personal life, though, when she married actor Josh Duhamel in 2009.
The “Glamorous” singer and Life as We Know It actor initially met on the set of his show Las Vegas in 2004. Together they have a son, Axl Jack Duhamel. Although their heights are usually less of a topic of discussion when it comes to this pair, they’ve yet again proved that love isn’t measured in inches and feet.
20. Seth Green and Clare Grant: 5’4” and 5’7”
Height is no match for real romance, especially when it comes to a mutual affinity for comic books, TV and fast food. That was certainly true when it came to the chemistry between comedic couple Seth Green and Clare Grant.
The two first met at a comic book store in 2006 and since then been known to be regulars at the annual Comic-Con convention in San Diego. Along with being partners in their personal lives, the Austin Powers actor and Walk the Line actress have teamed up on his Robot Chicken and her “Geek and Gamer Girls” song.

DeVito and Perlman may have a slight height difference between them, but they also have an impressive five Emmys between them! They’ve also worked together on numerous occasions including the hit sitcom Taxi and most memorably as an on-screen couple in the 1996 movie Matilda.

It’s no surprise that Thor star Chris Hemsworth is just about as massive in real life as we’d expect of the God of Thunder. Measuring in at 6’3” and 220 pounds, the Australian actor truly is a force to be reckoned with.
Making up half of the much-swooned-over Hemsworth brothers, Chris stands a whole foot over his wife -Spanish actress and model Elsa Pataky. Height is no obstacle for this golden couple, however, who married soon after meeting in 2010 and now have three little ones.
23. Sarah Michelle Gellar and Freddie Prinze Jr.: 5’2” and 6’1”
Nineties icons Sarah Michelle Gellar and Freddie Prinze Jr. still manage to whisk us back to nostalgically simpler times even if they’ve slid out of the spotlight in recent year years. From slaying vampires to stealing hearts in basically every teen rom-com, these two have grown into different roles.
Since meeting on the set of the 1997 screamer I Know What You Did Last Summer and marrying in 2002, it’s not their height difference of nearly a foot that everyone notices. After more than 15 years of marriage with two children, this Hollywood pair still seems just as in love as the day they met.

24. Kourtney Kardashian and Younes Bendjima: 5’0” and 6’2”
The average height difference between men and women is about six inches, yet even with heels on (which this reality TV queen usually dons), there’s still at least a head between the petite Kourtney Kardashian and her beau Younes Bendjima.
Kardashian, 39, and Bendjima, 24, met in Paris in 2016 and the fact that they met in the “City of Love” hasn’t been lost on them. The mother of three and up-and-coming Algerian model seem to prefer to shield their romance from the prying lenses of the cameras and nurture their relationship on the DL.
25. LeBron James and Savannah Brinson: 6’8” and 5’7”
No this is no tall tale. He was a high school basketball and football player and she was a cheerleader and softball player when they met. NBA star LeBron James probably hadn’t even reached his full height of 6’8” when he first asked out Savannah Brinson.
Neither the years nor the inches dampered the connection between these childhood sweethearts and James proposed to Brinson at a 2011 New Year’s Eve party coinciding with his 27th birthday. The Akron, Ohio natives stayed together through James’ rapid rise in pro athletics and now share 16 years of togetherness and three children.

What’s more extraordinary than their 10-inch height difference is the fact that almost 15 years after they first met, life brought them back together for good.

Before Turner and Jonas started dating in 2016, Jonas was linked to the star studded Demi Lovato, Camilla Belle, Ashley Greene, Gigi Hadid and most famously, Taylor Swift, but no one captivated his heart quite like the England native, so much so that he’s asked her to marry him last October. A model herself, Wahlberg’s wife, Rhea Durham, stands a full inch above her husband. They wed in 2009 after an eight-year relationship, and have four lovely kids together: daughters Ella Rae and Grace Margaret, and boys Brendan Joseph and Michael.

The headline-making team of two is one of the more high-profile duos in the sports world, yet it seems they haven’t sidelined their priorities. “Him and I are the best of friends and our number one commitment is to our [10-year-old son, Kiyan].” La La said of Carmelo. We’re rooting for you!
41. Jamie Cullum and Sophie Dahl: 5’5” and 6’0”
It’s definitely a double standard that makes gender equality advocates cringe when people say if these celebrity heights were reversed it wouldn’t make much noise. However, for singer-songwriter Jamie Cullum and model-author Sophie Dahl they wouldn’t be more indifferent about their seven-inch height difference.
The English twosome tied the knot in 2010 and now have two little girls together. Of their height, Dahl has said: “I think if we were both slightly more neurotic people, it would be crippling, but the fact of the matter is that we’re both happy. It’s cool.” We couldn’t agree more!

The Academy Awards are chock full of ridiculously awkward moments that inevitably come along with live television, and with nearly a century of Oscars, there’s plenty of cringes to remember.
