Published

on

It might be hard to believe, but many celebrities choose to stay away from social media. Some quit for publicity stunts while others quit to maintain a sense of privacy. If you have ever wondered why your favorite celebrity deleted his/her accounts, look no further. We have the reasons right here.

Justin Bieber Kept His Promise

In 2016, Justin Bieber was romantically linked to Lionel Richie’s daughter, Sofia Richie. He shared photos of the two on his Instagram account. Of course, he received an outpour of negativity. Eventually, the singer posted: “I’m gonna make my Instagram private if you guys don’t stop the hate. This is getting out of hand.” Bieber deleted his account but eventually returned once he was no longer linked to Richie.

Leslie Jones Was Attacked

Following the success of 2016’s Ghostbusters, Leslie Jones became an overnight sensation. However, the Saturday Night Live star quickly became the target of racially charged online attacks, eventually forcing the comedian to quit Twitter. She tweeted, “I feel like I’m in a personal hell. I didn’t do anything to deserve this. It’s just too much. It shouldn’t be like this. So hurt right now.” Jones eventually returned to Twitter once the backlash had resolved.

Cardi B Said ‘Bye, Felicia’

On May 11, 2018, rapper Azealia Banks criticized Cardi B on social media, calling her a “caricature of a black woman that black women themselves would never be able to get away with.” It didn’t take long for Cardi B to respond to the comments, saying, “I’m from the hood. I speak how I speak, I am how I am.” The rapper deleted her Instagram account. She quickly returned on May 20 to promote her “Be Careful” music video.

Ariel Winters Needed A Break

On July 6, 2018, Modern Family star Ariel Winters quit Twitter due to the “constant negativity she experiences.” The actress needed a break from social media. According to her representative, she needed “a moment to breathe and enjoy herself without judgment.” Since then, Winters has returned to Twitter, but she isn’t afraid to voice her concerns.

Iggy Azalea Was A Victim Of Body Shaming

In 2015, Iggy Azalea went on a romantic Hawaiian vacation with her then-boyfriend, NBA star Nick Young. Paparazzi snapped pictures of Azalea in a red bikini. When the singer returned from her vacation, she read the endless amount of negative online comments about her weight. She quit social media, saying she needed “to be happy and it [social media] is too negative and draining.” The “Fancy” singer has since returned to social media.
