It’s no secret that actors enjoy watching each other’s work. When it comes to being entertained, they’re just like everyone else. They might also take some notes for their next audition. In a special Entertainment Weekly feature, celebrities discuss what they’re watching right now.
I’ll Be There For You
15 years since its final episode, people still adore Friends. The hit NBC series won six Emmys and went 11 for 11 in People’s Choice Awards wins. Pretty Little Liars star Lucy Hale can’t get enough of the sitcom. “I should probably not sleep with the TV on, but I do every night, and it’s always [tuned to] Friends,” Hale told Entertainment Weekly.
In 2011, Hale worked with Friends star Courteney Cox on Scream 4. Her time on Pretty Little Liars almost didn’t have her team up with Cox. “I was actually supposed to play a different role in the movie, but it conflicted with the Pretty Little Liars schedule. Luckily, they still wanted me to be a part of the movie, so they gave me this different role that’s very secretive,” she told Seventeen. In 2017, Hale shared an old photo of Cox and Jennifer Aniston with the caption, “Love this.”
All About Eve
Starring Sandra Oh, Killing Eve has a strong following with young adults. The show follows intelligence investigator Eve Polastri and their hunt for the assassin Villanelle. At the Emmys, actress Jodie Comer won for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series. Actress Brittany Snow has become one of its biggest fans. “I know I’m really late to the party, but I just finished Killing Eve, and I’m obsessed,” Snow told Entertainment Weekly.
Tarantino’s Done It Again
Once Upon A Time In Hollywood gained Oscar buzz before it was even released. Directed by Quentin Tarantino, the film earned $344.6 million worldwide. Comedian Ike Barinholtz, who’s known for his work in The Mindy Project, fell in love with the flick. “I watched Once Upon A Time In Hollywood, which is, like, the greatest movie ever. It’s, like, 17 hours long, and like, I wanted more of it,” he told Entertainment Weekly.
Barinholtz worked with Once Upon A Time In Hollywood actress Margot Robbie in Suicide Squad. Barinholtz already had a strong connection to the DC Comics property. “Ironically, my mom was friends with John Ostrander, who wrote one of the original incarnations in the 80s. I was very happy to hear about the project. And when discussions began of me being in it, I read the script and was like ‘Oh my God, this is awesome,'” he told The Chicago Tribune.
Another glowing fan of Tarantino’s movie is Andy Serkis. “I was lucky to be at the premiere, and I’ve seen it twice, and I absolutely love it,” he said. In 2006, Serkis and Tarantino were both guests on an episode of Late Night with Conan O’Brien.
From The Stage To The Screen
Another show that’s been gaining high praise is Fleabag. The series is based on Phoebe Waller-Bridge’s 2013 one-woman show. While the first season was released in 2016, it slowly attracted a growing fanbase. Its second season, which was released this year, arrived to critical acclaim. It earned six Emmys, including Outstanding Comedy Series and Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series.
Cobie Smulders and Brooke Satchwell are among those loving the program. “I have really been enjoying the show Fleabag. She’s a freaking genius,” Smulders said. For Satchwell, it was all about supporting Waller-Bridge’s work. Aside from Fleabag, the English actress was the showrunner for Killing Eve’s first season. “I worked my way through all of her series. I started off with Fleabag, and then, obviously, what she’s done with Killing Eve,” Satchwell said.
