Oscar-winning director, Guillermo del Toro, unveiled a one-of-a-kind world with 2006’s Pan’s Labyrinth. The film became an instant classic and earned countless accolades. Something fans remember most about the flick is its glorious cast of characters. We look at how the amazing stars of the film have changed and grown. Here’s what the cast of Pan’s Labyrinth looks like today.

We Are Young

At the age of 11, Ivana Baquero got her breakthrough role as Ofelia. The actress blew everyone away during her audition for the part. “I loved her first reading, my wife was crying and the camera woman was crying after her reading and I knew hands down Ivana was the best actress that had shown up,” del Toro told Dark Horizons. Baquero recently starred in the fantasy drama The Shannara Chronicles.

Proving Them Wrong

Hailing from Spain, comedic actor Sergi Lopez nearly didn’t land the role of Captain Vidal. Producers in Spain didn’t think he was right for the part, but del Toro stuck to his guns. “To play this evil character was easy because Guillermo del Toro gave me a lot of direction and guidance of what he wanted,” Lopez told Can Magazine. Lopez will star in the forthcoming film The Man Who Killed Don Quixote.

Mother Knows Best

After years of success in Spain, Ariadna Gil made her box office debut stateside as Ofelia’s mother Carmen. Since 2009, Gil has been in a relationship with Lord of the Rings actor Viggo Mortensen. She set to appear in the upcoming TV show Gods of Medicine with Gone Girl star Casey Wilson.

Keeping It Tidy

Del Toro handpicked Maribel Verdú to play Vidal’s housekeeper Mercedes because of her astonishing aura. Her performance earned her nominations at the Goya Awards and Cinema Writers Circle Awards. Verdú has a handful of movies in the works, including Grietas and Los asesinatos de Goya. Aside from acting, she’s also a stockholder for the Premium Clinic of Estepona.

A Duel Experience

In his illustrious career, Doug Jones has collaborated with del Toro in numerous films. Pan’s Labyrinth found him portraying both Faun and Pale Man. “He is like a wire armature with a sense of humor,” del Toro said at the Vulture Fest. Jones has found success on the small screen with his portrayal of Commander Saru in Star Trek: Discovery.
