Fans of Netflix’s Tiger King know about the relationship between Carole Baskin and Joe Exotic. The two have waged war against each other for years about the treatment of big cats. Now, Baskin is coming out on top by being the new owner of Exotic’s former zoo.
This Zoo’s for You
In court, Baskin‘s company Big Cat Rescue Corporation was awarded 16 acres of land owned by Exotic. The court battle started when Exotic transferred the property to his mother Shirley Schreibvogel. In 2016, Baskin sued Schreibvogel because Exotic illegally made the transfer. Baskin felt Exotic pulled this stunt to avoid paying creditors. Judge Scott L. Palk stated Exotic transferring the property was completely fraudulent. Palk is familiar with the entire Baskin/Exotic feud. Palk was also the judge for Exotic’s case that landed him in jail for 22 years. Aside from the land, Baskin will also obtain a slew of vehicles and cabins.
This isn’t the first time Baskin and Exotic bumped heads in court. In 2011, Baskin sued Exotic for trademark infringement. In the lawsuit, Baskin claimed Exotic tried harming her brand by trademarking Big Cat Rescue Entertainment. This would’ve led to confusion by many following Baskin’s work. In 2013, Baskin won the case and was awarded $1 million.
Lowe’s Gonna Go
The land’s current owner Jeff Lowe didn’t bother to get involved in this nasty lawsuit. “We anticipated Carol Baskin getting the title to the former park that once belonged to Joe Exotic, and we did not challenge her attempts to do so,” Lowe’s attorney Walter Mosley told CNN. “All of Jeff’s focus is on opening the new Tiger King Park in Thackerville [Oklahoma], which should be opening in the next 120 days.”
Lowe and his wife Lauren took ownership of the park after Exotic’s prison sentencing. They re-opened the area in 2018. Tiger King Park, which will be open soon, will include cabins for visitors to sleep in overnight. Over 400 animals will be transferred between parks.
While Baskin won the property, the area will be completely empty. Lowe started making moves when they gained co-ownership of the land. They saw the writings on the wall and wanted to start anew elsewhere. With the help of some investors, they were able to start up Tiger King Park.
Exotic Chimes In
To Exotic, this decision was a complete mistake. Through his Twitter account, Exotic’s management made this point clear. “It is a dark day in history when someone takes a man’s life’s work while the world isn’t looking,” the tweet stated. “Carole Baskin has stolen the Zoo while Joe is helpless behind bars and the world is trying to fix the brokenness in our police departments.”
Exotic isn’t letting his property go without a fight, though. His legal team has been working hard to appeal this decision. Exotic’s legal team is also trying to find a way to have him pardoned from jail. They believe Exotic needs to have his voice heard on this major issue.

Some Shocking News From the Sheriff
Baskin might be over the moon now, but Hillsborough County Sheriff Chad Chronister is looking to change this. In a recent interview with WTSP, Chronister gave an update on Don Lewis’ disappearance. Through his investigation, Chronister determined Lewis’ will was forged. The sheriff got the help of some forgery experts before announcing the discovery.
This revelation won’t lead to Baskin getting arrested. With so much time in the investigation, Baskin couldn’t be charged. Since the will already be approved by a judge, Baskin legally owns Lewis’s assets.
With a new zoo in her possession, Baskin will expand on Big Cat Rescue’s mission.
