Cancer-Stricken Girl Marries Best Friend in Fairytale ‘Wedding’

A five-year-old girl from Scotland who is suffering from a rare terminal cancer ticked-off the most important item on her bucket list when she “tied the knot” with her best friend in a special ceremony last weekend.

In a fairytale ceremony held in a meeting room in Aberdeen Exhibition and Conference Centre, Eileidh Paterson, who suffers from neuroblastoma, and best friend Harrison Grier exchanged their vow to be “best friends forever” while exchanging necklaces.

The event was attended by family and friends who were all dressed in princess and superhero costumes.

Pictures of the event are making rounds in social media because of the beautiful smile radiating on Eileidh’s face, despite a difficult treatment the day before, as she and six-year-old Harrison were happily walking down the aisle.

In an interview with the Daily Mail, Harrison’s father, Billy Grier, explained that although Harrison “has never been to a wedding before so this is all new to him but it was a beautiful ceremony and he enjoyed every minute.”

Grier also discussed the bond between his son and the young girl. “Ever since he met Eileidh, they have been inseparable. I think he knew what was going on. He certainly knew how important it was to her and wanted to do whatever he could for her.”

Gail Paterson, Eileidh’s mother, said that the enchanting event gave her daughter a much-needed boost of excitement after going through blood transfusions. “She was like a different girl during the ceremony,” Paterson said. “The spectacle of it really perked her up, she was in her absolute element getting to play with other kids and have fun. These are going to be lasting memories.”

Zara Grant, the 32-year-old woman who arranged the event and put the entire ceremony together in just one month, was also touched by the outpouring of support for the brave Eileidh.

“It was amazing to see the community come together so quickly to donate their time and services to the event.”
