Cameron Diaz Reportedly Retiring, According To Selma Blair

Published

on

It’s crazy to think that it’s been almost 25 years since The Mask came out and Cameron Diaz came into our hearts. What’s even crazier though is that Hollywood’s sweetheart might be riding off into the sunset for good.

Retired At 45

This isn’t just a gossip rag rumor, it comes from Diaz’s good friend Selma Blair. The two starred together in the romantic comedy The Sweetest Thing more than 15 years ago. In an interview for the Oscar’s Vanity Fair pre-party in L.A., Blair said: “I had lunch with Cameron the other day, we were reminiscing about the film. I would have liked to do a sequel but Cameron’s retired from acting, she’s like ‘I’m done’.”

This statement is all-the-more plausible considering that Diaz hasn’t acted since 2014 when she appeared in the remake of Annie. “I mean, she doesn’t need to make any more films, she has a pretty great life, I don’t know what it would take to bring her back,” Blair continued.

A Life Without Acting

It’s easy to see how acting might not hold the same appeal it once did for the 45-year-old actress. She has she been in the spotlight for over two decades. More importantly, though, she has something else now to make her feel special. Back in 2014, she was introduced to musician Benji Madden by Nicole Richie, and she’s been walking on sunshine ever since.

Hello!

“No one compares. Everything else just like washes and slips away. You realize like, ‘Oh this is like the real thing is. This is what real love is. This is what real commitment and devotion is. This is the person you build your life with’,” Diaz said in an interview with Andy Cohen in 2016. The couple married in 2015, only 7 months after they first met. And her life outside acting doesn’t end there. In 2013, Diaz released her bestseller The Body Book: The Law of Hunger, the Science of Strength, and Other Ways to Love Your Amazing Body. It seems like she has her hands pretty full.

It Ain’t Over Till It’s Over

You might want to putt off crying over your favorite scenes from There’s Something About Mary. Blair’s words might have come out wrong. “Guys please, I was making a joke in an interview,” she tweeted. “CAMERON DIAZ is NOT retiring from ANYTHING. And for more breaking news: I am NOW retiring from being Cameron Diaz’s spokesperson.”

Nevertheless, you know what they say: “There’s a grain of truth in every joke.” In this one, there might be more than one. Acting isn’t your usual 9-5 job that requires an official resignation letter. Even so, all facts considering, we might start seeing less and less of the beautiful blonde on screen. Only time will tell. For now, all we can do is wish her good luck in whatever she sets her mind on.
