The Slayer Is Reborn: A ‘Buffy The Vampire Slayer’ Reboot Is Happening

Published

on

It’s been 15 years since we bid farewell to Buffy, The Vampire Slayer. Since its final episode, many fans haven’t been able to find a show that could take its place. Fortunately, the slayer is set to make a grand return soon.

Return To Sunnydale

It was revealed that a reboot of the beloved supernatural drama is currently in the works. Monica Owusu-Breen has been chosen to write and produce the forthcoming series. She originally got her start writing episodes on Alias before becoming an executive producer on Brothers & Sisters.

NBC

Recently, she adapted the book series Midnight, Texas into a hit show on NBC. The series will return for season two this fall. Buffy creator Joss Whedon will serve as the show’s executive producer. Whedon and Owusu-Breen are no strangers to each other. They worked together on Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Gail Berman, Fran and Kaz Kazui, who were executive producers on the original series, will also return.

A Change Of Pace

One major note about this vampire slayer reboot is the lead character. It’s rumored that Buffy will be played by an African American woman. When it comes to this change, the producers wanted to showcase the growing diversity seen in TV. “Like our world, it will be richly diverse, and like the original, some aspects of the series could be seen as metaphors for issues facing us all today,” they stated in a press release.

20th Century Fox Television

The show is currently being shopped to various cable networks and streaming services.

She Is The Vampire Slayer

The original Buffy series was nominated for eight Emmys, with two wins to its name. The success of the show helped launch the Angel spinoff, which lasted five seasons.

Dark Horse Comics

While the series ended at season seven, the adventure continues in comic book form. Seasons eight through eleven have been released through Dark Horse Comics. But, we can’t wait to see Buffy hit the small screen once more!
