A 3-year-old toddler from Rockmont, Georgia sent out a patriotic message by standing on his feet for about two hours. The little boy did this to honor a brave female detective who fell victim to a deadly shooting. Cohen Chastain came up with the idea of standing at attention as a way to honor the detective, which lasted for more than two hours.

Kristen Hearne, a Polk County police detective, was shot and killed while she was in the process of investigating a carnapped vehicle. The deadly shooting that took the life of the detective was very tragic for the whole community. The very young Chastain, though, made a big effort to show his support and pay his respects to the fallen police officer.
TODAY interviewed the little boy’s mother, Mandy Chastain. She said that her son had never met the fallen detective. But during a ceremony at the local church, the boy was pondering how he could show his sympathy and support.

She added: “It was all his idea. He had a lot of questions with all the police officers at the Church and I decided I should just tell him the truth. He was really heartbroken when I explained what had happened and he wanted to wear a police uniform and stand for the procession.”
Cohen was not only recognized by the local community, but also by the Floyd County Sheriff’s Office, where the fallen officer had started her career. They invited the kid for a visit for his courageous act.

The little boy was asked to visit Aragon’s City Hall so authorities could give him a surprise.
Little Cohen spent the day with the police officers, who gave him lessons and allowed him to play with the lights and sirens of the police car. His mom said: “He’s just a regular 3-year-old little boy with a love for law enforcement.”

“It’s just a really hard time right now…our community is still struggling. We’re just so proud that Cohen was able to shine a little bit of light during a dark time,” she continued.
