Blind Woman Spends Life Savings to Save Beloved Guide Pony

Published

Panda the miniature pony has been guiding Ann Edie since 2003. The guide pony, although standing just a mere 29 inches in height, has been of immense help to the blind 61-year-old woman.

Edie, who hails from Albany, NY, has made an all-out effort to adapt her home to accommodate Panda as part of the family just like any other house pet. She had a nice and warm stall built outside as Panda’s private resting space. The loving owner even trained her guide pony in signaling if it wanted to go outside simply by ringing a bell.

Edie explained that although she had had guide dogs before, she later on found out that a horse, being a herd animal, is more reliable at predicting spatial movements and making the necessary adjustments. A pony is also more convenient for people who have dog allergies, and its life span is also longer than a dog’s. She concluded: “I’ve found that a horse’s intelligence lends well to guide work.”

Unfortunately, the ever-loyal and reliable Panda was found to be suffering from intestinal blockage this past year. After the unwelcome diagnosis, Edie has tried desperate attempts to save her friend and guide of 14 years. Vets removed an otherwise fatal mass from Panda’s colon.

However, vet bills have amounted to more than $30,000, and she and her husband Dennis don’t have enough money. But the couple’s good friend, Alexandra Kurland, who was also Panda’s trainer, initiated a fundraising effort to cover Panda’s bills.

The grateful Edie shared that Panda “is so much more than just a means for letting me, as a blind person, travel smoothly and efficiently around my community. Her joy in her work and in her life always puts a smile on my face. Being able to have Panda home was worth every penny.”

Neverland Ranch is Back On The Market: Take A Look Around the Amusement Park

Situated in the Santa Ynez Valley of Santa Monica, California, the almost 3,000 acre plot of land upon which Neverland Ranch was constructed has recently been placed back on the market. Nowadays, the one-time residence of international pop sensation Michael Jackson is going by a new name: Sycamore Valley Ranch. Much of the estate is as it was during the 15 years Jackson called it his home, except for a few glaring differences – namely, the removal of the fun-fair rides that gave the home its whimsical name Neverland Ranch. The very last vestiges of where the carousel once spun are still visible as you go through the grounds. Read on for an in-depth view of the ranch.
