Black Panther’s Script Got A Helping Hand From This Hilarious Actor

Blockbuster movies that achieve critical and box office success always have lots of people to thank for it, and Marvel’s Black Panther is no different.

Credit For A Huge Success

With a 97% Rotten Tomatoes score and booming ticket sales, much of the praise for Black Panther has gone to director Ryan Coogler, as it should. The cast, including leads Chadwick Boseman, Lupita Nyong’o, and Michael B. Jordan, also contributed greatly to the movie being such a hit.

But a handful of behind-the-scenes creatives also deserve a shoutout for the film’s success, and one of them is already very familiar to audiences. He helped inject some much-needed humor into the script, so every time you laugh during Black Panther, you have him to thank.

A Casual Contribution

Known for the critically-acclaimed FX series Atlanta, the cult-favorite Community, and as the new face of Lando Calrissian, Donald Glover is one busy man. Oh, we forgot to mention his successful rapping career under moniker Childish Gambino. But somehow, he found the time to work on another project: Black Panther. He and his brother, Stephen Glover, somehow got their hands on the top-secret script along well before production started.

“Donald and Stephen actually gave me notes on a draft,” said director Coogler, “They came in and read – came in and took a day, they were really busy – they took a day and read the draft… this was right before we started the shoot. They had some cool insight.”

The Glover Touch

So, what exactly did the Glover brothers give their input on? Donald Glover finally shared the secret in a recent interview. “[Director] Ryan [Coogler] was gracious enough to be like, ‘Will you take a look at this script?’ which was really cool,” said Glover. “Marvel locks things down, so we had not as much time as I would’ve wanted.”

“We had a couple of hours to punch up some jokes and stuff like that,” he continued. “It was already there anyway… They had already done a great job, so it was really cool to just get our fingerprints on there a bit.” If you haven’t already seen Black Panthergo see it! See if you can pick out Donald Glover’s signature humor.
