‘Black Panther’ Cast Dismisses Group That Tried Sinking The Film On Rotten Tomatoes

Marvel’s Black Panther is shaping up to be one of the biggest box office hits of the year. For Marvel fans, this will be seen as Michael B. Jordan’s redemption after playing The Human Torch in the universally panned Fantastic Four film. Unfortunately, this superhero movie had its own evil gang of bad guys looking to take it down.

A Truly Rotten Experience

A Facebook group was determined to spoil the fun for the cast and crew of the movie. Their plan was to sabotage the review score on Rotten Tomatoes to make other moviegoers avoid the film. Luckily, the popular movie rating website heard complaints from fans and got Facebook to shut down the entire operation.

“While we respect our fans’ diverse opinions, we do not condone hate speech,” stated Rotten Tomatoes in a press release.

Revenge Of The Nerds

The group was titled “Down with Disney’s Treatment of Franchises and its Fanboys.” Their agenda was motivated by the lack of critical love for films in the DC Cinematic Universe. The group argued that film critics were biased in favor of the more successful Marvel Cinematic Universe films.

Out of the five released DC films so far, two of them earned Rotten Tomatoes scores below 30. Wonder Woman, which was released last year, is the franchise’s highest-scored film with a rating of 92.

Long Live The King

The cast of Black Panther isn’t paying attention to whatever negative feedback comes their way. “Shame on them. Everybody is just focused forward. Those people are at the back,” stated Letitia Wright, who plays technical wizard Shuri in the film. When it comes to the impact of these thwarted negative attacks, star Chadwick Boseman stated, “Whatever they do online doesn’t really matter.”

Black Panther is the beginning of a big year for Marvel Studios. On May 4th, Avengers: Infinity War hits theaters, and on July 6, Ant-Man and the Wasp will bring some summertime action.
