Unwanted ‘Angel’ Dog Saved Thanks to Loving Foster Mom

Published

Every now and then, a special dog will arrive at an animal shelter that, despite their cute and sweet demeanor, nobody wants to take home. That was sadly the case with little Ron, a four-year-old black Labrador who was in dire need of medical attention and care. Despite later being described as an angel dog, he had a very tough time finding a home.

He was initially brought to San Antonio Pets Alive (SAPA) in Texas for care. But after staying in the shelter for over three weeks, nobody was interested in adopting or fostering Ron and they didn’t have the resources to keep him much longer.

Considering that the black Labrador was sickly may not survive for far longer, SAPA posted a desperate plea on Facebook urging anyone to foster, adopt, or rescue Ron.

“Ron is a curious boy that has been on his own for a while now. He needs to be loved and would adore a family that would take him in and spoil him. Ron is a lab blend, around 4 years old, and weighs about 45 pounds,” said the post.

While Ron’s physical look and overall condition were not exactly appealing to people, the dog’s frailties were exactly the reasons why the Lucky Lab Rescue and Adoption decided to take Ron in.

The group tends to focus on one dog at a time and after seeing SAPA’s post, they knew that Ron would be their Christmas miracle.

In an interview with The Dodo, Cori Johnson of Lucky Lab shared: that “Though we like to think we pull off miracles 365 days a year, during the holidays we keep an eye out for a special dog who really needs us. A dog no one wants, one who needs some love and care.”

Marie Guadagno responded to Lucky Lab’s plea and took Ron in as a foster mom.

At first, it seemed impossible to get Ron back in shape considering the dog’s many afflictions. Guadagno said that Ron was “emaciated. He weighed 39 pounds.” Not only that, she added that “He was heartworm positive; he had fungal, eye and ear infections; ground-down teeth; and skin sores that reached almost down to his bones.” Nonetheless, Marie was committed to doing everything she can to make him well.

All Guadagno’s efforts paid off and while Ron’s recuperation was slow, he was happy and looked completely different after just a few weeks.

Guadagno was thrilled to see how abundant love and care could positively transform a seemingly hopeless dog like Ron. “He looks so happy and cute now!” she said. “Every day is the best day of his life!” She elaborated further that he is “truly an angel dog — he captures the ability of dogs to overcome and to remain loving and loyal.”
