Bill Hader Breaks Down In An Interview Because He Misses His Kids

No single parent has it easy, but Bill Hader shows us how difficult it is when you happen to be a nationally recognized actor and director. Since his divorce with Maggie Carey just last year, Bill has admitted to having a tough time balancing his demanding work schedule and family life. In an interview with Variety, he became emotional when estimating he had seen his three daughters about “five times” over the summer.

Acting Takes A Toll On Hader Since SNL

Bill Hader kickstarted his acting career, with continuing personas such as Herb Welch, Anthony Coleman from “Puppet Class,” and most notably, Stefon. He has since written, directed, and starred in several films and shows, but it has never been easy for him.

Hader admits he struggled even in the early years of his acting career. “When I was on SNL, I was a bit of a basket case… I was so consumed with work and anxiety,” he told Variety. 

A Hectic Summer Schedule Costs Hader His Family Time

In 2017, Bill Hader finished writing, directed, produced, and performed in the first season of his hit show Barry. He also shot It: Chapter Two, and has begun writing the second season of Barry. This packed schedule made it difficult for Hader to see his daughters throughout 2017.

“I think I saw my kids a total of five days all summer,” he said in the Variety interview. “It was terrible… I’m getting emotional right now talking about it.” However, Hader is making changes to ensure 2019 is a family-focused year.

2019 Will Be A New Chapter For The Hader Family

Bill discussed in the interview that he plans to take the next summer off and focus on writing a new screenplay. He reasons that by staying home to work, his kids will see him more than enough and make up for lost time.
