Ben Affleck Likely Out As ‘The Batman’ Script Focuses On A Younger Hero

Published

on

Watch out, comic and DC fans; it looks like there may be some serious shake-ups coming to the world of Batman soon. Following some high-profile changes at the executive level, Warner Brothers has been forced to adjust many DC projects to accommodate the transition. This leaves details of the upcoming film The Batman up in the air.

The Dawn Of A New Era

According to a recent report, the latest version of writer-director Matt Reeves’ script envisions a Batman that is notably younger than the version we have seen in previous films, which could possibly mean bad news for the current caped crusader.

Observer

The news has led some to speculate about whether or not Ben Affleck, now 45 years old, would be reprising the role he played in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and Justice League.

An Unclear Future

It is important to note that nothing has been confirmed yet, and it is highly likely that the script could change in future iterations. Nevertheless, this development does raise questions about the future of the character.

Syfy

The change would come following the less-than-glowing critical reception of Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, which did little to solidify Affleck’s role as a stand-out superhero.

Ben Keeps Busy

Character inconsistencies and poor reviews may not be the only factors that could push Affleck out of the starring role; his schedule (outside of his Batman-related obligations) is also incredibly busy.

W Magazine

The multi-skilled celeb is currently filming a massive project for Netflix and is also set to direct and star in an adaptation of Agatha Christie’s mystery novel Witness for the Prosecution in the near future. When combined with the shifting landscape at DC Entertainment, this could make it impractical for both the actor and the production company to attempt to work together on the next film.
