Model Behati Prinsloo Reveals She Suffered From Postpartum Depression

Published

Behati Prinsloo is one of the most recognizable models in the world. She’s madly in love with her husband, Maroon 5 lead singer Adam Levine, and the couple has two daughters. Though her life seemed like one of joy, she recently revealed that she hasn’t gone without her share of struggles.

Keeping It Real

Prinsloo absolutely adores her kids but revealed that being a mom didn’t come without emotional challenges. In an interview with NET-A-PORTER, the model admitted that she suffered from depression after giving birth to her first child. “After my first baby [daughter Dusty Rose], I had a little postpartum depression and it was difficult to get back into normal life,” she said.

With her second daughter, Gio Grace,  Prinsloo has been able to find her way as a mom. “After the second one, everything felt so much easier,” she said. “It was easier for me to work out. Breastfeeding was easier.”

Finding Balance

Things became easier for Prinsloo when she learned to scale back a bit on her workload and focus more on her family. “It’s tough being a mom,” the Namibia-born beauty admitted. “I’m [currently] keeping work very casual and not trying to be everywhere and show that I’m ‘back.'”

So the model has been taking some projects here and there but also spending a lot of time with her young daughters. However, Prinsloo still enjoys her work in the fashion industry and is glad to be back in the game. In fact, she feels even more powerful knowing that she can balance motherhood and modeling.

Feeling Empowered

Just eight months after welcoming Baby Gio, Prinsloo hit the runway at the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show in New York City in November 2018. “I felt so empowered,” Prinsloo said in her interview. “I was like, ‘I can DO this. I have two kids.’ It was a beautiful journey. I loved being pregnant and I enjoyed getting back to work.”

For Prinsloo, she finds inspiration from other moms who balance their work and kids like she’s trying to do. “The people I look up to the most are working mothers,” the model said. “It’s awesome to see these amazing, strong women with kids and a career, killing it at both.”
