‘Beetlejuice’ On Broadway? Get The Exclusive Details Here

You’d have a hard time finding someone, anyone, who hasn’t heard of the 1988 hit Beetlejuice. With an all-star cast and the usual Tim Burton flair, this movie has long been a favorite for many cinema-files. Now, the classic is making it’s long-awaited transition to Broadway, and we’ve got the inside scoop!

A Fan Favorite

The original movie’s popularity has transcended many age groups – and it’s not hard to see why! Directed by Tim Burton, the offbeat film features stellar actors and actresses of the time, including Alec Baldwin, Geena Davis, Catherine O’Hara and, of course, the stars of the show Winona Ryder and Michael Keaton.

It offers a world of imagination with first-class talent at the helm, so we’re excited to see how this new rendition stacks up.

The Great Transition

Michael Keaton’s version of Beetlejuice is iconic, inspiring costumes and artwork everywhere. However, for the new edition, the character has taken on a more punk-inspired vibe.

Alex Timbers, director for the Beetlejuice musical, told Entertainment Weekly that there were multiple wigs, makeup, and costume tests, ranging from true-to-Keaton versions and then others that were “in the complete opposite direction.” The end result: a look that stays loyal to the original while reflecting its new hip talent.

What To Expect

The usual suspects are still there, and the story is very much the same. Young, angsty Lydia is struggling through her emotional teenage years and crazy family has been brought to the forefront of the story. The recently deceased Maitland couple is still very much present, but have taken more of a supporting role to Lydia’s wild ride with Beetlejuice.

Performances begin October 21 in Washington, D.C., and the great Broadway debut is set for Spring 2019. Secure tickets as soon as you can, this show is going to kill!
