Beautiful Transgender Celebrities Making Waves in Society

Published

on

Though transgender people have been around for many years, it has only been the past decade or so where they are boosting the amount of awareness surrounding them.

There are still a lot of people in this world who do not understand the movement or the reasons behind a person making this huge life changing physical transition in their life, the amount of people who are beginning to support and understand the cause has been rapidly increasing recently.

Many transgender people are coming out and going through the process of their own personal transitions, while also advocating for their cause so that other people will feel safe and comfortable making the same choices and transitions that they once did. Here are some amazing transgender people who are taking the world by storm and advocating for the growing transgender community.

7. Janet Mock

Born a male, Janet Mock knew that she wasn’t meant to be a male from a very early age. She started working in the sex industry at the young age of 16 just to make ends meet, getting her gender reassignment surgery when she was only 18 in Thailand. Eventually she left that world to attend the University of Hawaii at Manoa for her Bachelor of Arts in Fashion Merchandising, and then New York University to get her Masters in Arts in Journalism.

Now she is known as a former staff editor of People Magazine, as well as the author of her own novel Redefining Realness, which was released in 2014. “I believe that telling our stories, first to ourselves and then to one another and the world, is a revolutionary act. It is an act that can be met with hostility, exclusion, and violence. It can also lead to love, understanding, transcendence, and community. I hope that my being real with you will help empower you to step into who you are and encourage you to share yourself with those around you.”

6. Thomas Beatie

Remember a while back when we all heard about the first man to give birth? Well that’s Thomas Beatie, a transgender female to male originally named Tracy Lehuanani LaGondino. He went through his reassignment surgery back in 2002 to become a man, but a year later he became known as “The Pregnant Man” when him and his wife Nancy became pregnant with triplets!

Unfortunately this pregnancy was absolutely tragic, as Beatie went into emergency surgery due to his pregnancy and ended up losing all three of the fetuses. When asked about his transition, Beatie once said “My friends, they’re kind of always joking and asking questions like, ‘How did this happen? How does this work?’ Just funny things but really my friends and family are very supportive of us and they love Thomas.”

5. Andreja Pejic

How many people do you know who could win awards for Top Male as well as Hottest Female within the same exact year? Well, Andreja Pejic, formerly known as Andrej Pejic, is the only person that I know who actually made this a reality back in 2011!

2. Carolina “Tula” Cossey

I bet you didn’t know this, but Caroline “Tula” Cossey is the first person to ever be a transgender model for PlayBoy, as well as also being a Bond Girl! Not only was she a stunning face in a magazine all about sex appeal and glamour, but she did it during a time in the 1970’s and 1991 where being a transgender person was basically unheard of and totally not accepted by society.

“The biggest step wasn’t going out in public wearing female clothes and make-up, but rather getting my ears pierced. Back then in 1971, it wasn’t just a case of men didn’t get their ears pierced, but most women didn’t either. But I wanted to look pretty and wear earrings, and there was no way I was going to wear any of those horrible clip-ons. So I decided I was definitely going to have my ears pierced, and got them done just before my seventeenth birthday.”

1. Chaz Bono

Born Chastity Bono in 1969, the only son of popular singers Sunny Bono and Cher originally identified as a lesbian before making his transition. In 2008 he officially changed his name from Chastity to Chaz, and has been one of the biggest transgender advocates in the entire world for many years.

He has been a speaker for the Human Rights Campaign as well as working as the director of the Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation (GLAAD). “I confused gender identity with sexual orientation. Your gender identity is about who you are, how you feel, the sex that you feel yourself to be. Sexual orientation is who you’re attracted to.”
