After the brutal bloodbath of Avengers: Infinity War, it is hard to know which Marvel stars actually survived. Aside from half of our heroes being turned to dust after Thanos united the six Infinity Stones and fulfilled his promise to kill half the universe, other favorites perished onscreen (and off) throughout the movie.
What About Valkyrie?
We do know the fate of at least one star who didn’t feature in Infinity War — Valkyrie, played by Tessa Thompson. She was onboard the Grandmaster’s refugee vessel with the rest of the Asgardian citizens who had fled the city at the end of Thor: Ragnarok. Avengers: Infinity War picked up after the ship had been attacked by Thanos and his band of “children,” who were looking for the Tesseract that contained the Space Stone.

Thanos kills both Loki and Heimdall, who sent Hulk to Earth using the Bifrost to warn the Avengers, but Valkyrie was nowhere to be seen.
Asgardian Escape
Thankfully, director Joe Russo confirmed this week that she did survive the battle. According to a Reddit user, Russo said she was still alive during a Q&A session at his high school in Iowa City.

While he didn’t confirm how she managed to escape Thanos, he apparently mentioned that some Asgardians got away in escape pods. Could this mean a standalone film for the Asgardian warrior and the last remaining of her kind?
Marvel Massacre
Whatever it means, we’re glad the Infinity War body count hasn’t risen any further. Russo opened the Marvel epic with the shock death of Loki. While he’s come back to life before, it seems this time the God of Mischief has gone for good. Although with Marvel you never know, he could pop up with Valkyrie in a spin-off.

With the fate of nearly half the Avengers hanging in the balance, we will have to wait until next year’s sequel, the unnamed Avengers 4, to find out who will be left standing in the end.
