Arnold Schwarzenegger Spends An Afternoon With One Of His “Heroes,” Greta Thunberg

Greta Thunberg has become an iconic figure in environmental activism. With her passion and bravery, she has encouraged several American celebrities to come out of the woodwork as environmental activists themselves, including Arnold Schwarzenegger. The Mr. Universe champ has been a big part of her tour of the United States.

Schwarzenegger And Thunberg Ride Bikes Through L.A.

Arnold Schwarzenegger has been an integral part of Greta Thunberg’s tour across the United States. Since her speech at the UN Climate Action Summit, Thunberg has garnered national attention not only in the media but also in the eyes of celebrities like Schwarzenegger. He has assisted her with transportation and recently welcomed her to a family day riding bikes through the streets of Santa Monica. After the bike ride, Thunberg was able to meet Schwarzenegger’s daughter and family. He tweeted photos from the afternoon and captioned: It was fantastic to see my friend and one of my heroes @GretaThunberg last week and go on a bike ride around Santa Monica together and I was so pumped to introduce her to my daughter Christina. Keep inspiring, Greta!” The two seemed to have a great time, with Schwarzenegger grinning from ear to ear in all Twitter photos. His daughter is also an environmentalist and was reportedly excited to meet one of the family’s heroes.

Schwarzenegger and Thunberg’s Budding Friendship Throughout 2019

Schwarzenegger and Thunberg met earlier in 2019 in Austria, where the bodybuilder and actor is originally from. Schwarzenegger is also an environmental activist and jumped at the chance to collaborate with Thunberg during her tour. He has praised Thunberg on social media numerous times for her courage at such a young age. One of the first ways in which Schwarzenegger welcomed Thunberg to the United States was by ensuring she had fully electric transportation throughout her trip. Schwarzenegger had originally intended to send Thunberg his electric-powered Hummer. However, logistics issues made getting the original vehicle to her destination tricker than expected. Instead, Thunberg was able to travel throughout the U.S. and Canada in Schwarzenegger’s Tesla Model 3. Schwarzenegger’s spokesperson said that he wanted to help Thunberg so she can “travel fully electric through the United States and Canada.” Greta and Arnold’s bike ride was certainly not the only way they made a statement for environmental consciousness. Thunberg has been committed to reducing the environmental impact of her international tour by avoiding air travel and other greenhouse gas-emitting transportation methods as much as possible. Schwarzenegger’s kindly help made it much easier to travel in an eco-conscious manner, as electric transportation is still relatively uncommon in the United States, especially for rental vehicles.

Schwarzenegger Isn’t The Only Celebrity Admiring Thunberg’s Work

Thunberg tweeted about her enthusiasm for the American tour: “Since Friday afternoon I’ve been traveling east through the beautiful southern states in the USA to get to the east coast and hopefully find a transport to COP25 in Madrid…” While much of her effort has been grassroots focused, she has also had the opportunity to meet with several political and pop culture figures along the way. One such figure was Oscar-winner Leonardo DiCaprio. DiCaprio has been a staunch environmentalist for some time, working on several environmental documentaries including Water Planet, Global Warning and Before The Flood. In a recent Instagram post, he applauded Thunberg’s efforts and called her a “leader of our time.” He wrote: “There are few times in human history where voices are amplified at such pivotal moments and in such transformational ways – but Greta Thunberg has become a leader of our time.” Though Thunberg is on her way back home, she certainly made an impression on the American public. And hopefully, her budding relationship with stars like Arnold Schwarzenegger and Leonardo DiCaprio has inspired others.
