Black Mirror has been on everyone’s lips since its Netflix debut in 2016. While Bandersnatch blew everyone away, plans for a fifth season are still in the works. Two stars that will appear on the new season have been revealed.

Super Actors For Super Roles

The fifth season of Black Mirror will feature Anthony Mackie and Yahya Abdul-Mateen II. Mackie is best known as Falcon in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Outside of the superhero world, the actor has gained accolades for his work in The Hurt Locker and Night Catches Us. Mackie will continue his relationship with Netflix in Point Blank and the second season of Altered Carbon.

Much like Mackie, Abdul-Mateen dipped his toes in the comic book universe as Black Mantra in Aquaman. The New Orleans actor recently appeared in the Jordan Peele movie Us.

2019 Or Bust

The aforementioned Bandersnatch was such a tall task, it managed to delay production of season five. “We knew going into it that it would be difficult and challenging and more complicated than a normal film that we would do. Even then, we underestimated. As the story expanded, I like to say that the story got longer and it got wider. So the whole thing started expanding a bit like an inflatable life raft in a small room,” Black Mirror creator Charlie Brooker told The Hollywood Reporter.

Fans assumed that the new season would arrive sometime in 2020 because of the postponement. Fortunately, Netflix made it loud and clear that a fifth season will arrive before 2019 is said and done. “Season five will arrive later in 2019, as previously announced,” a Netflix spokesperson told Ars Technica.

A Lot More Calmer Season?

For the fifth season of Black Mirror, things will lean more on the positive side. “We’re doing more optimistic episodes and stories, rather than just dystopian and negative ones. We want to keep the show interesting for us,” Brooker told the New York Times.

Fans will be anxious to see what they come up with for the highly anticipated season.
