Anna Kendrick Compares Filming ‘Twilight’ to a Hostage Situation

Updated

on

The “Twilight” film series catapulted the careers of lead actors Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson. For actress Anna Kendrick, the films were also her time to shine. Unfortunately, Kendrick didn’t have any kind words about shooting the first “Twilight” movie.

Nothing Will Be the Same

In a recent article with Vanity Fair, Kendrick dove into her prolific career. One movie that came up was the first installment of the “Twilight” series. When asked about filming, Kendrick didn’t hold back on how she felt. “The first movie we filmed in Portland, Oregon, and I just remember being so cold and miserable. And I just remember my Converse being completely soaked through and feeling like, ‘You know, this is a really great group of people and I’m sure that we would be friends at a different time, but I want to murder everyone,'” Kendrick said. “Although, it was also kind of bonding. There was something about it, like if you go through some trauma event. Like you imagine people who survive a hostage situation, and you’re kind of bonded for life.”

Kendrick isn’t the first “Twilight” star to say something negative about the popular film series. While promoting the films, Stewart and Pattinson have shared their woes to the press.

Before the Fame

Before “Twilight,” Kendrick earned a Tony nomination at the age of 12 for “High Society.” Kendrick made her way to indie films “Camp” and “Rocket Science,” garnering more accolades. One person who became a fan of “Rocket Science” was “Twilight” director Catherine Hardwicke. At the Sundance Film Festival, Hardwicke gave the Dramatic Directing Award to “Rocket Science” director Jeffrey Blitz. Kendrick was asked to do a mix-and-match audition for the role of Jessica Stanley. Actress Christian Serratos, who portrayed Angela Weber, originally wanted to play Stanley. With Serratos out of the way, Kendrick was able to impress everyone with her audition.

Kendrick portrayed Stanley until 2011’s “The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 1.” During her time with “Twilight,” Kendrick’s momentum skyrocketed with 2009’s “Up in the Air.” Kendrick’s performance earned her Best Supporting Actress nominations at the Golden Globes and Oscars. One year after exiting “Twilight,” Kendrick started a film franchise of her own with “Pitch Perfect.” The sleeper hit also gave Kendrick her first platinum single with “Cups.”

Things are Looking Up

Nowadays, Kendrick has been taking over the small screen with two explosive series. In April, Kendrick starred in the web series “Dummy.” Airing on Quibi, the series follows the peculiar relationship between writer Dan Harmon and his partner Cody Heller. In late May, Kendrick unveiled the romantic comedy “Love Life,” which is streaming on HBO Max. The anthology series follows a different person’s battle with dating. The first season finds Kendrick portraying hopeless romantic Darby Carter. “Love Life,” which is also executive produced by Kendrick, has been renewed for a second season. While a new set of characters will arrive, Carter is slated to show up in a supporting role.

The year 2020 also saw Kendrick reprising her role as Queen Poppy in the computer-animated film “Trolls World Tour.” Due to the coronavirus, the movie wasn’t able to properly hit theaters as planned. Universal Pictures shocked fans by offering the film through video on demand services on its initial release date. “Trolls World Tour” became a massive success for Universal Pictures with streams from all directions. Kendrick will star in the forthcoming sci-fi thriller “Stowaway,” which filmed last year in Germany. The actress will also star in the crime thriller “Unsound.” While Kendrick was cast last year, the project hasn’t started filming yet.

While things were hectic on the “Twilight” set, it’s been smooth sailing for Kendrick ever since.
