Amy Adams Joins Instagram to Read to Children

Actress Amy Adams has wowed fans for years with roles in The Fighter, American Hustle, and Big Eyes. Now, she’s tackling a new role in her career: Instagram user. The actress greeted her adoring fans worldwide through a remarkable video with a purpose.
Helping out the Kids
While many stars will simply share a video of themselves, Adams took it one step further. In the video, she shared a new program called Save With Stories. This allows kids to watch their favorite celebrities read children’s books online. With the assistance of Save The Children and No Kid Hungry, they’ll be able to aid children during these rough times. “These funds will help us make sure that families know how to find meals when schools are closed, support mobile meal trucks, food banks and other community feeding programs, provide educational toys, books and worksheets and support out-of-school-time programs to help kids make up for lost time in the classroom,” Adams said on Instagram.
While the actress asks for a set amount in donations, it’s the thought of helping kids that counts. “There is no maximum and there is no minimum — together, we will rise and together we can help,” the actress also posted on Instagram.
Celebrities Taking Time to Read
Adams launched Save With Stories with the help of fellow actress Jennifer Garner. The list of celebrities helping out features some of the biggest names out there. Josh Gad, who is best known to kids as Olaf in “Frozen,” found himself reading Shel Silverstein’s classic “The Giving Tree.” For the Annie Award-winning actor, this wasn’t one of his favorite childhood books. “I’m going to read a book that I have a lot of trouble getting through and haven’t actually read in a long time because I find it a difficult one,” the actor said before diving into the book. Released in 1964, “The Giving Tree” deals with a relationship between a boy and an apple tree. An animated adaptation of the novel is currently in the works at Dreamworks Animation.
Garner kicked off the whole thing by reading Jan Brett’s “The Mitten.” Released in 1989, “The Mitten,” follows a group of animals sleeping inside a mitten. Adams worked her way through her daughter Aviana Olea Le Gallo’s “The Dinosaur Princess.” The book was illustrated by Adams’ husband Darren Le Gallo.

Everyone’s Joining In
Celebrities aren’t the only ones reading to children. Many authors and illustrators are doing the same thing through Romper‘s Operation Storytime. Writer Mac Barnett decided to go through a book per day. As he said on Instagram, “I’ve got about a month’s worth of picture books and if we run out, I might read some chapter books or something. Who knows?” Aside from his picture books, Barnett has written novels such as “Mac Barnett Kid Spy” and “The Terrible Two.”
Writer Brooke Smith decided to let someone closest to her read her book “The Keeper of Wild Words.” “My daughter will be reading sections of my book this week. I know many of you are home with your kids so I hope this story brightens up your day…Please share on your story so everyone can enjoy a little bit of the wild,” Smith said on Instagram. Released this March, the book follows the journey of a grandmother and granddaughter through the woods.
Kids might be confused about the current coronavirus situation but they understand a good book. With these celebrities, authors and illustrators joining forces, they’ll be entertained. The most important takeaway from these videos is getting kids to read more. With a lot of free time on their hands, it wouldn’t be surprising to see kids dive into their new favorite book.
