Since 2010, American Pickers has been one of the History Channel’s longest-running reality shows. One of the biggest stars from the show is Iowa native Danielle Colby. While many only know her as Antique Archaeology’s shop office manager, she has a very exciting life.
Inked For Life
One thing people notice about Colby are her amazing tattoos. To her, they all have a special meaning in her life. “A lot of them, unfortunately, are about death and love and people I’ve lost. A lot of my body is a memorium of sorts. I just want to make sure to carry these people and moments with me the rest of my life. All of them are about my loved ones,” she told Times Free Press.
A Friend In Need
While some people assume she was randomly chosen for the show, that’s farther from the truth. She’s been friends with costar and creator Mike Wolfe 10 years before the show even started. “I met him at a yard sale, and we were interested in the same thing. I wasn’t sure whether I was going to buy it or not, so I set it down. He yanked it up. I told him that I was still looking, but he said, ‘Looking isn’t buying,'” she told The Joplin Globe. Wolfe chose Colby because she didn’t look like someone that would normally work at an antique shop.
Punk Rocker At Heart
When it comes to her favorite music, Colby is a massive punk rock fan. Two of her favorite bands are The Pogues and Against Me. “I got to see The Pogues and that was hands down one of the most amazing experiences of my life. And I did get to see Against Me! My friend snuck me into Lollapalooza because I’m a starving artist and I couldn’t afford a ticket. And it was just an incredible show. That was the first time I had ever seen them — and I liked them before that, but that show was just insane,” she told YuppiePunk. Her appreciation for the genre led to her performing at Riot Fest with her dancing company.
A Love For Fashion
Before landing on the show, Colby was busy working in the clothing industry. “Before American Pickers, I was a clothing designer for Gorilla Clothing. I don’t have any formal education in design. But when you have a couple of kids and you have to provide for them, you do what you’re good at. I owned a shop and we made clothes, sold jewelry, and I also did energy healing. I still do all of that stuff for fun but not for my career,” she told ShareTV. She opened the clothing store 4 Miles 2 Memphis, which is named after her two children.
Lending A Hand
Colby decided to donate to Puerto Rico following Hurricane Irma and Hurricane Maria. Over the years, the island has been her go-to spot for vacations. “People are rising up and helping each other, and that’s the beauty of being here,” she told Quad City Times. Colby helped raise $60,000 for supplies and transportation in the area. She documented the entire ordeal on her website.
How She Relaxes
When she’s not working at the shop, Colby enjoys studying and exercising. “Women’s studies intrigue me. I want to know everything and I love to read. I will read over socializing every time if I can get away with it. I love running and circus arts too. I have the mind of a six-month-old pit bull. I need to run myself hard to satisfy the amount of energy that I have. That’s my passion; finding bliss in every situation through exercise and education,” she told Monsters and Critics.
