The Absolute Best and Worst Moments from the AMAs

Published

on

The Amerian Music Awards is one of the most anticipated award show of the year, and for good reason. It’s unique in a way that the winners are all fan-voted. There’s no critics or appointed judges to determine the winners. Of course, it’s a night in which the who’s who in the music industry dazzles the audience with their looks, performance and style. If you need a recap of the best and worst from this year’s AMAs, then we got you covered!

Gigi Hadid does politics

Gigi Hadid got the honor’s of hosting this year’s AMA’s, and she certainly didn’t hold back when it comes to her jokes and political opinion. However, with the recent election results, you could say that Gigi Hadid got the best timing to pull out some political jokes. Hadid did a Melania Trump Impression and cracked audiences up with her recap of the infamous speech the new first lady delivered during the Republican convention.

Bruno Mars clearly made an effort for the AMAs

Bruno Mars started the AMA 2016 ball rolling with a performance of 24K Magic. The performance was great, nothing surprising about that. However, what was surprising was Bruno’s choice of wardrobe. Think athletic gear, pristine Nike shoes and gold chains, you get the idea.

After Bruno Mars’ performance, Pharoah pulled out his own Donald Trump impression, which did bring a lot of belly laughs.

Chrissy Teigen speaks from the heart

Chrissy Teigen took center stage as she announced John Legend’s Love Me Now performance. Aside from the announcement, she did talk about how the world is in a very bad shape and why it needs a love song right now. Of course, these were not her exact words as that version requires a lot of bleeping. Teigen also shocked the audience with a bit of a wardrobe malfunction, which wasn’t much of a shock considering her dress was held together with safety pins.

Green Day returns to the political stage

Green Day is a regular performer during the AMAs, and we all know how political the punk rockers can get. in fact, as you probably recall, 2004’s American Idiot was an album directed at former president George Bush.

Just when you thought things mellowed down after the elections, the group decided to return to doing what they do best, and played good music with a heavy political tone. Green Day performed Bang Bang with additional lyrics with a clear dislike to the new President-elect.

A Little Bit of technical difficulty

Wrongly announcing the winners is something that happens from time to time. Thankfully, nothing of such happened this year. However, there were technical difficulties that were very hard to ignore. Case in point – the big screen plastered the winners before the announcement could be made. This happened during the announcement of Ty Dolla $ign and Fifth Harmony collab and also with Twenty One Pilots; which brought a lot of confused faces.

For this AMAs’ epic finale, Kendrick Lamar and Maroon 5 took the stage and blew everyone away with a collaboration of the Don’t Wanna Know. It was definitely the exclamation mark that you are looking for after 3 hours of an award show.
